DTFR enables the advancement of large diameter wells in diverse geology, including unstable formations. The drill fluid column provides even and gentle hydraulic pressure against the borehole wall using flooded reverse. This serves to stabilize the borehole as there is no fast moving air or fluid against the borehole wall to cause erosion and destabilization. By eliminating erosion common with air/mud rotary drilling and replacing it with the passive gentle pressure of the fluid column against the borehole wall, the borehole wall is protected.
Environmental control of cuttings: DTFR is a non-invasive method that provides 100% control of the cuttings both below ground and on the surface. Cuttings are removed by traveling inside the innertube and are not exposed to the borehole walls. This characteristic qualifies DTFR as a match for environmentally sensitive sites. These environmental benefits can be used to differentiate your services from competitors and are loved by industry regulators.
Reduced noise: Large diameter DTFR does not require high levels of air pressure to successfully drill. Typically, the air pressure levels can be maintained at or around 200 PSI or less. This level of air pressure can be achieved with a small air compressor, thus reducing the noise at the drill site.
Drilling without additives: Many times you can drill without the use of bentonites, high viscosity muds, additives or with minimal additions such as soda ash, which is beneficial in environmentally challenging sites.
Better producing wells: DTFR drilling typically results in higher producing holes. The increased productivity is due to cuttings being completely removed from the borehole and formation packing is eliminated, which is a common issue with air/mud rotary drilled holes.
Productivity: Wells drilled using DTFR can be drilled in a single pass without secondary casing, as the fluid column provides borehole stability. This allows for a faster completion while enabling placement of a larger well screen.
Larger projects: Drilling bigger holes for bigger pay days.
