INSPIRE- INSIGHT -IMAGINE

Hello my friends!

Happy Spring!

Oh, the joy of basking in the extended daylight, immersed in the sweet scents of cherry blossoms and daphne! With each passing day, my energy surges, my spirits soar, and my passion for home cooking is reignited. The new season brings renewed enthusiasm for cooking what is in season. As I bid a slow and somewhat tearful farewell to my cherished fall/winter varieties of squash and comforting soups and stews, I eagerly welcome the arrival of vibrant colored salads and abundant grilling opportunities!

This month we are diving into the heartwarming world of home cooking and its myriad health benefits.

Below you will find inspiring reasons to spend more time home cooking. I encourage you to find what resonates with you, one simple takeaway that truly hits home.

As always.......

I hope this newsletter offers some messages that INSPIRE, nurture new INSIGHT on healthy habits, and encourages you to IMAGINE reaching your wellness vision.

Mastering Basic Techniques for

 Healthy Home-Cooked Meals

Cooking healthy meals at home doesn't have to be daunting! Where do you start? I always help my clients to take small steps. I ask them what they love to eat when they go out and that is where we start. Cook something you love to eat. If you love pasta then cook pasta, but maybe you add more veggies then you would if you were out at a restaurant. Play with differnt sauces and spices. Be creative and curious. It doesn't have to be complicated.

Keep in mind color on your plate means nutrition in your body.

I have found that when I take the time to get myself organized before I start cooking then the actual cooking is the easy part.  What do I mean by that?

  1. Get a scrap bowl ready for all your peelings and anything else you need to throw away.
  2. Get all ingredients out and prep before you start cooking.
  3. Have tools ready, knife, measuring spoons and pan or pot.
  4. Slow down and you will actually speed up.  Seems strange but it works!

Saving Time with Home Cooking:

A Surprising Revelation

Contrary to popular belief, cooking at home can actually save you time compared to eating out. Skip the wait for a table and the commute to your favorite restaurant by preparing meals in the comfort of your own kitchen.

With strategic meal planning and efficient cooking techniques, you'll spend less time waiting and more time enjoying nutritious, homemade dishes with your loved ones.

Sure, I totally get the appeal of dining out once in a while, I love to support local restaurants and enjoy special occasions with friends and family, however whipping up meals at home gives you the reins on what goes into your body.

The types and quantities of oils, salt, and portions used in restaurants can have significant implications for your health if you're unaware of their specifics.

By preparing meals at home, you can effortlessly support your journey towards better health, often without even realizing it. Embarking on a healthy lifestyle can begin right in your own kitchen.

Added incentive!

Frequent home cooking is linked to healthier eating habits and lower calorie intake, even among individuals not actively trying to lose weight, according to research conducted by Julia A. Wolfson and Sara N. Bleich of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Their study, based on data from over 9,000 participants, indicates that those who cook at home more often consume fewer carbohydrates, less sugar, and less fat, with implications for combating obesity and related health issues.

So here's to embracing home-cooked meals. Home cooking not only nourishes your body with wholesome ingredients but also fosters a deeper connection to food and its preparation. By taking charge of your kitchen, you embark on a journey towards improved health, enhanced well-being, and a newfound appreciation for the joys of homemade cuisine. Let your kitchen become a sanctuary where health and happiness thrive, one delicious meal at a time!
