Benefits of Reading For Seniors
As our clients age they are often looking for ways to occupy their time and keep their minds active. There is no better way than reading! Reading to or with our clients can benefit them in so many ways. Here are some examples:

  • Enhance memory
  • Better sleep

  • Reduce stress
  • Sharpen their decision making

Here are some great winter reads for seniors:

  • All The Light We Cannot See – by Anthony Doerr
  • This Time Together: Laughter and Reflection – by Carol Burnett

February is Black History Month
Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Also known as African American History Month, the event grew out of “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating Black history.

"Go Red for Women"
February 5, 2021
Celebrated annually on the first Friday of February in the U.S, National Wear Red Day is a holiday in which men and women wear the color red to raise awareness about the number one health problem that affects American women – heart disease. 'Go Red for Women' encourages awareness of the issue of women and heart disease and action to save more lives. This movement is to encourage women to find out their five most important health numbers: Total Cholesterol, HDL Cholesterol, Blood Sugar, Blood Pressure and BMI (Body Mass Index). By knowing these numbers, women can find out their risks for developing heart disease and take measures to prevent it.

Visiting Angels, locally, supports 'Go Red for Women' each year in February to raise awareness of heart disease and stroke in women.  We wear RED each year as a Team to recognize our Visiting Angels' Clients, our Family, our Friends, our Neighbors who have battled heart disease or currently battling heart disease every day.  Heart disease and stroke cause 1 in 3 deaths among women each year.

Wear RED on Friday - February 5, 2021!
