International Overdose Awareness Day

Benilde Hall and Reach KC distributed essential items and Narcan throughout Independence Avenue on August 31st in honor of International Overdose Awareness Day. That evening, Benilde Hall tabled Warrensburg's 2nd Annual Overdose Awareness Day event. At the event, Benilde Hall gave out Narcan and our Mental Health Coordinator, Jenna, gave a demonstration on how to use Narcan.

Benilde Hall at the Real Voices – Real Choices Conference

Benilde Hall staff attended the Real Voices – Real Choices Conference in Osage Beach. Our Executive Director, Ken Vick, presented "Harm Reduction - Peer Connection" and our Mental Health Coordinator, Jenna Strickland, presented "Peer Documentation." Ken also presented about harm reduction at the 5th Annual Intersection of Christian Beliefs and Recovery Seminar in Jefferson City.

Benilde Hall at The Lumineers Concert in Kansas City

Benilde Hall was invited to distribute Narcan and to share information about our organization at The Lumineers Brightside World Tour 2022 concert during their stop in Kansas City.

At each show, The Lumineers have an Action Village where local nonprofits can raise awareness about their services. To learn more about the Action Village, click here and here.

Community Resource Fair/ Backpack Giveaway

The Washington Wheatley Neighborhood Association & Exceeds Expectations, Inc. hosted a Community Resource Fair/ Backpack Giveaway at Peace Baptist Church.

The event included free food, school supplies, activities for kids, and door prizes. It was great to connect with our neighbors and talk about the work that Benilde Hall is doing in the community.

KCPL Bookmobile at Benilde Hall

We are thankful to the Kansas City Public Library Bookmobile for coming to Benilde Hall throughout the summer. The Bookmobile has been a great resource for our clients and the Washington Wheatley community. We are excited to announce that they will be coming back to Benilde Hall in the fall!

Staff Shout Outs

Benilde Hall said goodbye to our counselor, Larry, in August.

As much as we want to keep our team members forever, we support staff in continuing to grow in their journey. You will be missed here, Larry. Thank you for all of your hard work at Benilde Hall!

Benilde Services Supervisor, Derek, earned his Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree in Computer Science/Information Systems - Secure Systems Administration and Engineering (Cybersecurity) from Metropolitan Community College, Kansas City. To celebrate, Derek was gifted 2 Chiefs tickets! Congratulations!

Our Mental Health Coordinator, Jenna, earned her Certified Reciprocal Peer Recovery (CRPR) credentials! Congratulations, Jenna!
