Town of Bennett 2024 Budget

We are pleased to present to the Mayor, Board of Trustees and residents the 2024 Budget for the Town of Bennett, Colorado. This budget represents our continued commitment to prudent fiscal management and proposes several innovations in the organization of government, thereby advancing our ongoing efforts to improve the efficient and effective delivery of Town services.

Town Hall Closed

Town Hall will be closed on Monday, January 1, 2024.

We will reopen at 7 a.m. on January 2, 2024.

Municipal Election for Board of Trustees

The Town of Bennett will conduct an election on Tuesday, April 2, 2024. The 2024 Town Board election ballot will list the positions of Mayor and four (4) Trustee seats. All available seats are for a four-year term.

Nomination Petitions will be available at the Town Clerk’s office at 8:00 AM on January 2, 2024 and must be returned to the Town Clerk no later than 5:00 PM on January 22, 2024. Only petitions obtained directly from the Town Clerk’s office may be circulated. Blank petition forms may not be copied for the purpose of obtaining additional signatures or to give to other candidates. Petition forms from the Town Clerk’s office may NOT be disassembled. Each candidate must turn in all of his/her petitions at one time.

Every registered elector 18 years of age or older may be a candidate for office, if he/she has resided within the Town for a period of at least 12 consecutive months immediately preceding the date of the election. Residency within an area annexed to the Town shall count towards the residency requirements in the Town.

Nomination petitions require a minimum of 10 signatures. Each signer must be a registered elector residing within the Town limits. No registered elector shall sign more than one nomination petition for each separate office to be filled.

Persons desiring to vote in the upcoming election and who have not registered to vote must do so on or before Election Day. Persons may register to vote, if living in Adams County at the Adams County Motor Vehicle Office, 355 South 1st Street in Bennett; and if living in Arapahoe County at the county offices at 5334 South Prince Street in Littleton or Arapahoe County Motor Vehicle Office, 538 N. Highway 36, Byers, CO 80103. Persons may also register to vote online at govotecolorado.com

Town of Bennett Awarded Two Grants

On Tuesday, Dec. 12, the Adams County Board of Commissioners (BoCC) awarded more than $8 million in open space grants for 16 projects thanks to the voter-approved Open Space Sales Tax. Funding for the fall 2023 grant cycle came from revenues from the first half of the 2023 Adams County Open Space Sales Tax, which was passed by Adams County voters in 1999, and in perpetuity in 2020.

Bennett was awarded two grants -

Kiowa Creek North Open Space Trail - Grant Request $1,166,000

This project will be to construct a trailhead and parking in our newly annexed Kiowa Creek Open Space. The trail that will wind through this open space will be part of the trail system that begins in Arapahoe County in our Bennett Regional Park and Open Space, goes through the Arapahoe County Open Space, across I-70, through the center of Bennett, and ends in the new open space. The town is currently in design for this connecting trail. Construction will begin in fall 2024. Phase 1 of the trailhead and parking will entail sitework, hardscape components, and irrigation. Phase 2, which is planned for 2025, will include plant material, softscape, and other amenities such as shelters, benches, and a bathroom.

Trupp Park Rubber Surface Replacement - Grant Request $25,000

Due to drainage issues within the park, the rubber surfacing of the western side of the playground has become damaged. The water has caused the rubber to shrink and pull away from the concrete sides of the playground creating a trip hazard. The drainage issues have been resolved with additional phase of the park therefore we are ready to repair this damage.

Snow Removal

Plowing and Treatment of Bennett’s Main Streets

Town of Bennett Public Works provides snow response services to most streets, utilizing a fleet of 2 large plows, 7 residential plows. Large plows are used around main roads, emergency facilities, senior assisted living facilities, water treatment facilities, schools and emergency response facilities. The residential plows are used on residential streets.

Town of Bennett uses solid deicers on its main streets as part of its snow response. The solid deicer, called Ice Slicer, is a naturally-mined product from Utah that is more than 90-percent chloride salts. Its red color comes from 60+ trace minerals also naturally found in the deicer. The product helps prevent snow and ice from bonding to the pavement and can serve to provide some traction on the roadways during snow events.

What to Expect:

Plowing of emergency access, businesses, bus routes, and residential collector streets will begin at 3 inches.
Plowing of residential streets will occur at approximately 6 inches.
When deployed, the residential plows will take one pass down the center of every side street to prevent deep ice rutting and to keep the streets passable on accumulation of over 6 inches of snow.
All residents and subdivisions are responsible for maintaining their own sidewalks.

Snow Removal Routes Map

Priority 1: Emergency Access/Businesses/Bus Routes (Red)

These streets are targeted first to ensure routes remain clear to the town’s emergency centers. Schools, fire stations, public service buildings and rescue units are located on red priority routes. Plowing begins at 3 inches of accumulation.

Priority 2: Residential Collector Streets (Blue)

This second priority tackles higher volume streets adjacent to schools, nursing homes, recreation facilities, school routes and neighborhood access routes. Plowing begins at 3 inches of accumulation.

Priority 3: Secondary and Neighborhood Through Streets (Green)

These routes are serviced after Priority 1 and 2 routes are completed. Plowing begins at 6 inches of accumulation.

Priority 4: Parks and Trails

Once other routes have been serviced - and as time and resources allow – trails and park areas of the town are plowed within 24 hours of a winter storm event.

CDOT Maintained Roads (Brown)

State Highway 79 and Colfax Avenue (CO - 36) are both CDOT maintained roads.

Arts Council Corner - CCAL January Workshop

Where are you from?

I was born in Denver, Colorado and raised in Thornton.

How long have you worked for the Town? I will have been with the Town of Bennett for three years in January 2024

What do you do for the Town?

There are a number of things that I take care of for the Town. I handle all things IT and tech related including, but not limited to, network administration, software, hardware, access control, surveillance and more. I am also the Town's drone pilot and I handle any mapping and surveying needed for the Town.

What would you like to share with the community?

When I am not working on IT for the Town I am an avid cyclist. I enjoy taking long treks through Colorado and other states. I have completed RAGBRAI twice which is a 500+ mile ride across the state of Iowa.
