Have you been keeping up with the Museum on social media? Every week we release a new tour at ten led either by our Curator or our Collections Manager. These short insightful pieces offer informal close-ups of some of the pieces in our permanent collection, and rotating exhibitions. The video featured here explores a few of the items that will be featured in the upcoming major summer exhibit: Robert Frost, "At Present in Vermont".

You don't have to have a social media account to follow along, either. All of these videos (and more) are also available on youtube, or directly on our website. If you have any requests about what you would like to see, please email us at ideas@benningtonmuseum.org.

What's Going on in the Parking Lot?
|
|
Last summer the Museum lobby was flooded during heavy rainstorms because of a backup in our drainage system. This month we had our antique waterline scoped and mapped to determine what needs to be done to avoid such disasters in the future. The excavation out front has been filled in for the time being so that we are ready for you when we re-open on April 2nd, but this is just the beginning of a much larger project that will involve re-grading, re-routing, slip-lining, and removing tree roots where possible. The fun never stops here at Bennington Museum!

Bennington Museum Hires a
Community Engagement Coordinator
|
|
For more than 10 years, preschool children and their parents, grandparents, and other caregivers have participated in the Museum ABCs program at Bennington Museum. The program has been sponsored from the beginning by The Bank of Bennington, making it possible for families to attend at no charge, and supporting the purchase of books and materials.
Earlier this year, the Museum was awarded a grant from the A.D. Henderson Foundation as well as supporting funds from the Stewart's Holiday Match to expand this program into underserved communities. Bennington Museum has hired June Goff to lead the project as Community Engagement Coordinator. Over the course of this year, she will work with two Bennington College student interns and community partners to learn more about the barriers that discourage participation in Museum programming and how to address them.
June is a native of Washington County, NY. Her background in museum education includes experience as the Curator of Education at The Hyde Collection Art Museum and Historic Home, and as the Executive Director of the World Awareness Children’s Museum, both in Glens Falls, NY. She started the Tours for Tots program at The Hyde, and the Small World program at the Children’s Museum for kids ages 3 – 5 who, with their adult friends, enjoy storytelling, art, and art making.

If you are interested in the history and people of this region, make sure to check out the BHS page of our website. There you will find a plethora of interesting resources and research projects and also a link to the program's regular newsletter. If you make a donation in support of BHS programming (which is always offered to the public free of charge,) you will be added to the email list and will receive the newsletter directly to your inbox.
This month the newsletter includes a tribute to Lion G. Miles, local historian and author, and an article describing the journey north by Rev. Nathan Perkins, a missionary preacher from West Hartford, Connecticut.

Going a bit colder, "Sugar Grove" by Will Moses channels a typical Vermont day this time of year. If you need some syrup to go along with these pieces, just email the store and we will be happy to include a bottle in your order.

The Museum is pleased to showcase the beautiful creations of talented Vermont artist, Theresa Somerset. These Pysanki eggs, which are available in a variety of sizes, are traditionally displayed around Eastertime in decorative bowls, or hung on trees.

Even if we are still working from home, it feels good to have some fresh accoutrements for that next Zoom meeting. Check out these affordable, wearable, pieces of art by local maker, Jenny Wren.
