A long-awaited concert featuring new music on old instruments
Each year since 1982, Bennington Museum has honored an individual or organization in recognition of outstanding service and significant contributions to the Bennington Museum community. This year, the General Stark Award will be presented to Alison Nowak and Robert Cane, longtime Museum members and residents of North Bennington, whose generous support over the years has made the popular Music at the Museum concert series possible.
Please join Bennington Museum for the annual spring party on May 28th to celebrate the contributions of these two community leaders and to cheer them on at the presentation of the General Stark Award.

This month we welcomed two interns to our Museum team.
Gwen Asher will serve as the Community Engagement Intern for the Museum ABCs pre-school program. Gwen brings a vast array of experiences to this position, having previously worked as a children's program mentor at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, as a tutor and after school program facilitator with City Year New York, and as an intern with Cafeteria Culture in Manhattan and with Free Arts in Los Angeles. Gwen is currently finishing her junior year at Bennington College, working towards a BA with a focus on art education and environmental action.
Anna Hogan is a rising senior at Mount Anthony Union High School and, as our digital intern, will be filming and editing the "Tours at Ten" series for the rest of the year. This internship is made possible through our partnership with the Southwest Tech program.
We are so grateful for this added support, and intend to put our interns' talents to good use as we work to fulfill our mission of making the culture of this region accessible to everyone!

Empty Bowls
Bennington College is creating a series of molds from which bowls will be made for the Empty Bowls hunger awareness event hosted by GBICS Bennington. These students want to tie their bowls to Bennington’s rich pottery tradition and so are beginning by making 3D scans of three objects in our collection. We can’t wait to see what they do with them!

Later this month we are looking forward to welcoming local craftsperson, Bliss McIntosh, who will lead a basket-making workshop. Even if you don't find yourself to be handy in this way, you can still enjoy some of her fine, unique, products which we are offering for sale in the Museum store during the month of May only!
Bliss McIntosh has been making baskets since 1977, using traditional hand pounded black ash and split and carved white ash as well as birch bark and other materials. Her wares are both useful as containers for gardening as well as a beautiful as a piece of functional decor in your home.
Visit the Museum Store online, or stop by in person to really get a sense of the artistry of this timeless craft. We look forward to seeing you soon!
