Hebrew Heritage Fair
We were thrilled to host our inaugural 4th and 5th-grade Hebrew Family Heritage Fair this week. Students dedicated months to researching and interviewing family members to uncover their lineage, presenting their findings in both book and trifold formats. At the fair, students proudly showcased their newfound familial knowledge in Hebrew to all attending guests. It was heartening to witness the diversity of backgrounds represented by our students and their families. Through this process, students not only learned about each other's families and traditions but also celebrated them. Kol Hakavod!

Yom Chessed
We express deep gratitude to the 232 volunteers who joined us for the 7th annual RMBA/UOS/Bnei Akiva Yom Chessed (Day of Service) in memory of Rabbi Joseph Radinsky zt"l. Notable achievements included: painting a vibrant exterior mural facing our Early Childhood building, tidying the Magical Forest, constructing sets for our upcoming school play, "Peter Pan", providing tourniquet lessons by Baylor College of Medicine students, and reorganizing the Beit Midrash for enhanced spiritual growth. Additionally, volunteers: assembled 30 Friendship Circle activity boxes, donated 27 pints of blood saving 81 lives, built 20 birdhouses with the residents of the Medallion, created 55 Purim cards for IDF soldiers, recited 150 Tehillim for injured IDF soldiers and hostages, and baked 320 cookies for local firefighters.

Go Texan Fun
Last Friday, our early childhood and lower school students embraced the spirit of the Wild West as they celebrated Go Texan Day with enthusiasm and flair! Decked out in their finest western attire, our young cowboys and cowgirls embarked on a day filled with exciting activities and memorable moments. The day featured a special guest appearance from alumnus Rabbi Ari Kellerman, who added to the excitement of the activities. Students had the opportunity to learn traditional line dances, engage in imaginative cattle wrangling, test their skills at snake tossing, participate in a spirited sing-along, and showcase their creativity by decorating their own hats.

This week in Ms. Morrison's 4th-grade class, students embarked on a creative journey by crafting whimsical stories incorporating all their spelling and vocabulary words. Engaging in this exercise, they honed their skills in altering word tenses while weaving their narratives. Moreover, students showcased their grasp of word meanings by formulating sentences that effectively demonstrated their comprehension.

Tower Resilience
This week in Dr. Arnold's science class, 8th-grade students delved into the engineering challenge of constructing earthquake-resistant towers. Armed with popsicle sticks and hot glue, they endeavored to build towers standing at least 2 feet tall.

Texas Rodeo Adventures
This week, Morah Aviva's EC4A class immersed themselves in the rich culture of Texas and the excitement of the rodeo. Each student embarked on creating their own Texas Symbols Book, exploring the diverse facets of the rodeo and celebrating the distinctive characteristics that make our state unique. Additionally, students enhanced their number identification and counting abilities through a collaborative western board game specially crafted by Morah Aviva for the class.

Elderly Outreach Awareness
In Mrs. Rosenzweig's Better to Serve high school elective, students engaged in their 9th lunch and learn session this week, delving into the poignant social issues of loneliness and isolation among the elderly community. Through interviews with seniors, students gained insight into the profound sense of sadness stemming from the lack of companionship and social interaction. Witnessing the scale of this issue was eye-opening for the students, emphasizing the significance of their community service efforts, particularly their volunteer sessions at the Medallion on Sundays.

Math Mastery
This week, Mr. Simon's third graders delved into fundamental math concepts, revisiting their knowledge from place values to addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. In addition, no pun intended, they uncovered a special trick for dividing by tens and hundreds, which they also found applicable in reverse for multiplication. The students were thrilled to discover and apply these new skills, further enhancing their mathematical proficiency.

Election Prediction Insights
In Mr. Cell's high school classes, students are actively engaging in predicting the outcomes of current presidential political primaries, gaining firsthand experience in following the election cycle. They are honing their skills in reading and interpreting the credibility of different polls, while also considering evolving factors that could sway voter opinions, often missed by conventional polls. With anticipation building for the upcoming Texas primary and Super Tuesday, students are poised to analyze delegate allocations across states. Extra credit opportunities and bragging rights await those who successfully navigate this political landscape.

Houston Exploration
This week, Morah Clara's EC3B class immersed themselves in their Texas unit, with a particular focus on our dynamic city, Houston. Named after Sam Houston, they explored notable landmarks and discussed why Houston is renowned as the "Space City" due to its association with NASA. Engaging their fine motor skills, students painted the Texas map and embellished it with images of Houston landmarks and a diverse array of local cuisine. Embracing the onset of spring, conversations centered around Texas meadows and the blooming bluebonnets. Using their fingers, students brought the bluebonnets to life.

Animal Stories
This week in Ms. Morrison's 2nd-grade class, students embarked on an animal investigation project. Each student selected a book focusing on a specific animal, initiating the writing process by reading and recording facts about their chosen animal. They then organized their findings into an outline, paving the way for the creation of rough and final drafts for their animal-themed books. This enriching experience not only facilitated research skills but also provided invaluable practice in writing book reports for the students.

This week in Morah Sandy's EC3A class, students delved into Parsha Ki Tisa, discovering Hashem's instruction to Moshe to count the men using a half shekel each. To illustrate this, the class engaged in a creative craft activity, crafting cups filled with half shekel coins. Additionally, they explored the narrative of Bnei Yisrael collecting gold to fashion the golden calf by collecting "gold" from around the room, offering a tangible representation of this moment in the parsha's story.

Texan Pride
This week, Morah Hannah's EC4B class embarked on a Texan adventure, immersing themselves in the rich culture of cowboys, rodeos, and our state symbols. Harnessing their fine motor skills, students created fingerprinted bluebonnet portraits, painted vibrant cacti, fashioned Texas flags from torn paper, and personalized their own cowboy boots. In a unique twist, they engaged in sensory learning by making cowboy chili in the math center's sensory bin, using recipe cards to identify numbers.
