Parsha Minute
As our alumni return to visit the school, it's exciting to hear about what is calling to them. How does that relate to the blessings that Yaakov gave his children, each according to his character?
Shabbat Shalom!

As the quarter ends, the high school Honors Chumash class is wrapping up their 10 Plagues Projects. Each group suggested an "alternate plague" and also explored one of the
Mako
t (plagues) from the Torah. Pictured are Netanya Ruben and Molly Goldstein with their alternate plague poster depicting an invasion of cockroaches while Yael Passy and Devora Machuca suggested "Fiery Tornadoes" as a possible
Makah
(plague). Also pictured are Orly Lashak and Coral Yeudai who created a children's book and a modified game to foster a learning experience about "Boils" for younger children.

From the desk of our
S.T.E.A.M. Lab
This week in STEAM we finished up our unit on technology. We continued working with simple machines throughout our centers. We also introduced all of the kids to Pop, our code-a-pillar. Our code-a-pillar allows young learners to begin working with computer coding and programming by assembling a sequence of code onto the caterpillar. When the go button is pressed, the caterpillar reads the code and starts rolling around the room doing whatever the kids have coded it to do.

Science Snack
As a final project for their science unit on plants, Mrs. Schneider's first grade class ate a whole plant! The students had a great time eating each part. They ate carrots as the root, celery as the stem, spinach as the leaves, broccoli as the flower, and peas as the seeds.

Paddlet for K
In Parsha, Kindergarten students celebrated the finishing up of
Sefer Bereishit
(Genesis). They learned about the phrase "
Chazak, Chazak Ve'Nitchazek"
and also participated in a fun "Emoji Project." All of the children were assigned an "Emoji" and then recorded themselves explaining their Emoji and how it connects to a story from
Bereishit
.

Rodeo Art
Students in EC4 through high school have been working very hard on their entries for the prestigious Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo School Art Competition. Our in-school judging took place on Wednesday to determine which 25 pieces from our school will proceed to the private school judging, which will be held on January 14th at the NRG Center. Congratulations to all our students who participated, and please come take a look at the show in our school hallways.

Cornucopia of Thanks
Sources or Strength is a teen initiative mental health program sponsored by Jewish Family Service. The program focuses on many components that make up the success of a teen. This month we focused on the component “positive mentors.” We chose to show how much we appreciate our teachers and staff at RMBA. Students in the middle and high school were given cards and a prompt that let them express to an adult at the school how important s/he is to them. The cards will be delivered to the teachers at the beginning of January.

Library Visitor
Students in Kindergarten enjoyed their visit to the library, as they had a surprise visitor read them a few books. It was none other than Head of School Dr. Oberman, who shared with them some of his favorite stories.

Strollin' Around
The EC15 and EC2 classes are the proud owners of a multi-child transport wagon. The rough terrain-wheeled vehicle will allow our students to go on walks through the outdoor forest and enjoy riding in safe comfort for longer nature walks. A special thank you goes out to Esther Shavitzky for helping us find a great deal on the carrier. The children have enjoyed riding already...and it has become quite popular.

Mix it Up!
Morah Alissa's EC3 class learned all about mixing up colors this week to form new colors. They read Herve Tullet's book
Mix It Up! where they were able to watch colors splatter, mix, and transform all at the touch of a finger. The class will soon begin to work on their own version of the book.
