Parsha Talk

Over the years I have heard some teachers explain that they entered teaching because of the subject area and others because of the students. What does the Torah suggest?

You shall not oppress any widow or orphan. If you oppress him, [beware,] for if he cries out to Me, I will surely hear his cry. My wrath will be kindled, and I will slay you with the sword, and your wives will be widows and your children orphans. When you lend money to My people, to the poor person [who is] with you, you shall not behave toward him as a lender; you shall not impose interest upon him. If you take your neighbor's garment as security, until sunset you shall return it to him, for it is his only covering; it is his garment for his skin. With what shall he lie? And it shall be [that] if he cries out to Me, I will hear because I am gracious.

This week in STEAM we have lift-off! Our students have begun exploring outer space! Our ECE students are discovering their place in space, among the planets and stars of the Milky Way Galaxy through books, art, and hands-on explorations. Our lower school students are learning what it takes to be an astronaut by reading about Neil Armstrong and watching as he takes off to the moon with fellow astronauts, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins. Lower school is also learning what it takes to engineer a rocket ship and all about NASA's next mission - living on the moon.
Nonfiction Scavenger Hunt

Students in Ms. Rantz's 2nd grade class kicked off the week with a nonfiction unit by cataloging the books in their classroom library and going on scavenger hunts to classify types of non-fiction books. The students have also been focusing on different biomes in preparation for their STEM day projects.
Word Games

Students in Morah Sharona's 2nd grade Judaics class had a fun time learning new shorashim (root words) by playing a number of different word games.
Kit Kat Day

In celebration of Random Acts of Kindness Week upper school students had the opportunity to say something meaningful and nice about someone else at school and enjoy a delicious Kit Kat treat as a reward.
Game Time

The High School Girls basketball team had a great time facing off against the Israeli Elitzur girls basketball team on Friday for a special game. The Beren Stars won 20-17 in a close game! The Elitzur girls also spoke to our middle school students about life in Israel.
Hidden Moths

Students in Mrs. Schneider's first grade class learned all about animals camouflaging in their science lesson. As an activity the students were tasked with finding hidden paper moths, and then they each had the opportunity to color one and camouflage it while their peers set out to find the hidden moths.
