Greetings!

     When the cold snowy days of winter have you huddling in front of the fireplace, look back fondly on the hot summer weather we're currently enjoying! Lot's of "pool" days, to be sure.

One very important item of news we want to update is the status of the proposed Southern interchange. At the end of June, an application was submitted by a developer to ODOT which outlined the financing package being proposed to fund a Southern exit. It included taking the $16.5million generated by the Tanger Outlet Mall located in Berkshire Township. That money was earmarked for future improvements known as “Design Year” improvements on US36/US37 and I-71. Its purpose, as stated in the ODOT Agreement No. 18798, was“to secure in part the future funding of the Design year traffic improvements….. and to the extent possible funding the future improvements at the present interchange of US36/US37 and I-71 PID 90200 and subsequent related projects…” 

The Berkshire Township Trustees firmly believe that the funds generated by the Tanger Mall for future Design Year improvements should be used for additional Improvements on US36/US37 and I-71 and not used for other purposes.

At the July 11 Trustee Meeting the Trustees passed a resolution indicating that we would not support the Application to ODOT that included the Design Year funds and we would continue working with public and private parties to improve the current interchange, utilizing the future Design Year $16.5 million which the Trustees believe is in the best interest of our Township residents and businesses.

We hope that if you have opinions on this plan to take these monies, earmarked for design year improvements to I-71 and 36/37 as referenced in the in ODOT Agreement above, that you will consider contacting Steve Fellenger at ODOT with your concerns about this issue. His contact info is:

PARK  NEWS UPDATE
 The soil testing of the township land being considered for a park has been completed. While the final results are not in (it will be several weeks) the preliminary report looks good. 

   As soon as we get a green light, we will notify everyone in an email about the next planning meeting. We sincerely hope all interested folks will attend, as we have said before that this is a resident driven initiative. We are dependent on the skill sets, energy and talents of our residents to make this park a reality. If you are familiar with grant writing, we'd love to hear from you, as grants will definitely be needed.

LAST CALL FOR  PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST ENTRIES
AUGUST 12th IS IT!
See your original photograph framed and hung in the Township Hall. We are looking for photos which depict the beauty of Berkshire Township. Up to a total of SIX winners will be selected and the winning pictures will be enlarged and framed, to enhance our Township Hall. We've received some great pictures, but knowing that it is summer and folks vacation, we'd like to be sure everyone who wants to enter has done so.
CONTEST RULES

There are two categories:  Adult Division (age 18 & over) and Youth Division (under 18)

The rules are the same for both divisions

  • This contest is open only to residents of Berkshire Township
  • All photos must be provided in hi-resolution digital files in a .jpg format
  • All photos must be taken in Berkshire Township, and depict scenes of nature, wildlife, architecture, or similar themes in our township
  • If a photo depicts a person or persons, artist releases must be provided for that photo to be included in the judging
  • If the photo was taken by a person under 18 years of age a parental consent must be provided
  • Berkshire Township reserves the right to use the submitted photos on its website and in other forms of advertising, if desired, with proper credit always being given to the photographer
  • There are no cash or monetary prizes associated with this contest.
  • Photos will be judged by a panel of Trustees, administrators and local arts professionals in a blind judging format
  • The photo must not already be licensed to or used by any other entity
  • The Township reserves the right to end this contest at any time and is not liable for any copyright infringements due to improper submissions

Results will be posted on this website in August, 2016, and winners will be notified by email.
