Greetings!

We saw so many of  our residents at the ODOT Open House asking questions and sharing their input regarding the proposed southern exit, and frankly, we were proud to have such a large turnout showing an active interest in their community. Well done! As a reminder, we hope you'll follow up with an email to ODOT and with the other officials before May 13th with your opinions. The CORRECT address for the ODOT rep, (promise) is  Steven.Fellenger@dot.ohio.gov

We have an exciting opportunity in our township we want you to be aware of, also.  Please consider attending the meeting on May 16th to begin the process of developing a plan to create a park or recreational area on the township owned land where the Township Hall stands on Rome Corners Road. We need the residents to take the lead on the planning for this important project. Details below.

Have a say in the future of a park or recreational area in Berkshire!
If you remember the movie, “Field of Dreams” you’ll remember that Kevin Costner’s character wanted to build a baseball diamond in the middle of his land. In a cornfield. In the middle of Iowa. And nobody “got it.” Well, we don’t want to build a ball diamond, necessarily, but YOUR Township would like YOUR input on how to best develop the land at 1454 Rome Corners Road, where the Berkshire Township Hall is located, for potential park/recreational purposes. There are approximately 12 acres available for this use. The Trustees are forming a citizens’ committee to research what the residents want, what they need, and how it might be developed. This is a resident driven project. We need YOU to take the lead, put your heads together and offer ideas. We can provide:
  • Maps of the property
  • Access to meeting room w/wi-fi
  • Access to County resources
These are the brainstorming topics we'd like to see explored:
  • Park Layout
  • Potential End Users, e.g., Sports Organizations, Teams, etc.
  • Facilities, e.g., Gazebo, Picnic Shelter, Restroom
  • Utilizing Old Barn Site, Silo
  • Trail Connectivity
  • Potential Grant Writing Opportunities
The meeting is Monday, May 16th at 7 p.m. at the Township Hall and all interested residents are to attend. If you need more info or have questions, feel free to contact Shawna at Berkshire.Shawna@gmail.com
This is the first, of what we hope will be more meetings to move this project forward. We need residents to not only offer input, but actually take the lead, so we can get this project off the ground and
BUILD IT – SO YOU CAN COME AND ENJOY IT!

Several residents have inquired about the condition of the pavement where the culvert was installed on South Galena Rd., just south of 36-37. It is not finished, but will be soon. The weather did not permit final paving when the work was done, but the county has informed us that it will be on the list of work to be done as soon as they are able.
