Berlinger SmartView Data Logger: Go-Live Transition Information

Dear Health Care Provider,

Effective Monday July 15th, all provider sites with the new SmartView digital data logger devices installed, must transition to utilizing the devices as their primary source of temperature monitoring for state-supplied vaccines in their inventory.

All sites must upload the old Fridge Tag2L device temperature logs one final time in the MIIS to ensure that there are no missing days in your temperature log records. Please keep the old Fridge Tag2L device on site, so that it can be used in a backup capacity. Once transitioned over to the SmartView devices, sites will still be required to upload temperature logs (1) monthly, (2) with every vaccine order and (3) whenever a temperature excursion occurs in a unit.

Please refer to the Generating Temperature Log Reports mini guide for step-by-step instructions on how to download temperatures from the SmartView system. When uploading SmartView generated temperature logs into the MIIS, sites must select the option “other” on the temperature log upload screen and input the name of the unit in the “DL ID” box, as shown below. Selecting “State-Supplied Data Logger (DL)” will result in an upload error, and you will be unable to submit the temperature logs.

Sites are required to log into the SmartView system daily, via the SmartView tab in the Virtual Gateway, to complete daily temperature checks for all storage units. Please refer to the Acknowledging Daily Temperatures mini guide for step-by-step instructions on how to complete temperature checks in the SmartView system.

In the event of an out-of-range temperature, sites must log into the SmartView system to acknowledge and close out the alarm. Please refer to the Acknowledging Alarms in SmartView mini guide for step-by-step instructions on how to handle temperature excursions in the SmartView system. Sites are still required to upload the associated temperature log and completed TempX Form in the MIIS for all out-of-range temperatures. Never administer vaccines that have experienced an excursion, without first confirming viability with the manufacturer and submitting the information to the Vaccine Management Unit via the TempX Form.

If your site experiences technical issues within the SmartView system or with the SmartView digital data logger device, please open a ticket with Berlinger support at support@berlinger.com. All tickets to Berlinger support should include “MADPH PIN #xxxxx” in the subject line of the email. A screenshot or picture of the issue should also be included in the ticket request for a quicker troubleshooting response.

If your site is having trouble accessing the SmartView system, requires additional members of your staff to obtain access to SmartView or has any questions regarding SmartView go-live transition, please contact the Vaccine Management Unit at dph-vaccine-management@mass.gov or 617-983-6828.
