Operation Christmas Child
Our recommended Operation Christmas Child collection items for May are hygiene items! Every shoebox should have basic hygiene supplies, such as a washcloth, soap/soap dish, toothbrush, hairbrush/comb, deodorant, Band-Aids, etc. Remember that toothpaste and liquid items are NOT allowed! Many children who receive shoeboxes do not have their own toothbrush, washcloth, etc, so they are happy to find these items in their box. Yuri, a shoebox recipient from Honduras, said, "The toothbrush meant a lot because before I had to share my toothbrush with 25 other girls." Obviously, hygiene items are important!

Keep collecting items every month so you will be ready for shoebox collection week, November 12-19!

Bermuda Hundred United Methodist Women
MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS TO ATTEND THE UMW CHARTER NIGHT DINNER - May 21st at 6:30PM will be the United Methodist Women's annual charter night celebration . We are planning a BBQ/fried chicken dinner in the Fellowship Hall followed by a fun time of bingo with prizes. We will also be honoring our Lifetime Members at this event.  The cost for the dinner is $12.00 and reservations need to be in by May 15th . Please contact Doris Morefield or Mattie Rogers to confirm your reservation. Checks should be made payable to the Bermuda Hundred UMW. We look forward to seeing you there.

By the time you read this article, the UMW will have completed yet another successful yard sale. We are already planning the fall yard sale and will be giving you more details on the date and items to bring. Thank you to each of you who help us by bringing "treasures" to sell, work during the set up, sale and packing up whatever is left. A special thank you to those of you who come and purchase items. As you know, all the funds from the yard sale go to support our mission projects in our community and around the world.

We have completed the 150 health kits to be delivered to the Virginia Annual Conference meeting in Hampton in June. These kits will be delivered by UMCOR to all points of the globe and we appreciate your support and cash donations to make this mission project possible.

Just a reminder that there are new books in the UMW lending library in the Grundy Parlor.  For those of you who are participating in the UMW Reading Program, please take a look at the new selections. If you aren't already in the program, please join us and start educating yourself on the many programs of the United Methodist Women.

If you are interested in joining the UMW, please give me a call or just show up at one of our meetings. Our meetings are always open to the women of the church and we would love to see you.

Doris Morefield, UMW President

Bermuda Hundred United Methodist Men
The Bermuda Hundred United Methodist Men met on April 17th at the River's Bend Grill. We always meet on the third Tuesday in each month at 6:30PM. We look forward to welcoming any men from the church to our meetings. You don't have to make reservations, just come.

We continue to work on a number of projects such as replacing the wood fencing around the air conditioning units with vinyl fencing. Several projects have been completed, and some, like replacing the fencing, will be completed now that the weather is improving. If you see something that needs to be done in and around the church, please don't hesitate to let a member of the UMM know. There are several small projects that need to be completed and the UMM will be working with the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts to see if they will help with yard clean up.

MAKE YOUR PLANS NOW TO ATTEND THE FISH FRY MAY 19TH. The fish fry is planned for 5 - 7PM on Saturday night, May 19 th , in the Fellowship Hall . All the United Methodist Men have tickets for sale. We look forward to a time of fun and fellowship.

We continue to encourage you to let us know if there are needs by some of our church members who aren't feeling well or who are not physically able to do manual labor around their homes. The men of the UMM are willing to help with lawn mowing, trimming shrubs, etc. We already have serviced several lawn mowers. Please contact any member of the UMM or Pastor Mike if you need help.

Our next meeting will be on May 15 th at 6:30PM at the River's Bend Grill. All men of the church are invited to attend and participate in our projects. We enjoy a meal together, a devotional and lots of discussion on upcoming and new projects. Without a doubt, you will enjoy the fellowship. We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting.

Mark Strickler, UMM President
