Dear Artisans,

Everyone's favorite Spanish stunner is back and better—if that's even possible! After making 15 vintages in a row, Cult Aussie winemaker Chris Ringland (with four 100-pointers to his name) has achieved the perfect balance in this wine!

This is 'business as usual' for Alto Moncayo! This wine has deservedly ranked in Wine Spectator's Top 100 many times—as high as #27!

It's no surprise this comes from Spanish wine-importing legend Jorge Ordonez, the guy that helped bring some of the finest producers worldwide including Muga and Llopart!

More About Chris Ringland

"Chris Ringland is a relatively modest bloke who gives most of the credit for his extraordinary wines to his nearly 100 year old vineyard. He now has [well over 30] vintages under his belt, the results of which place him with Marcel Guigal, Gerard Chave, Christophe Baron, Manfred Krankl, and Michel Chapoutier as the international grandmasters of Syrah/Shiraz." - Robert Parker

More About Alto Moncayo

Bodegas Alto Moncayo is located in the Campo de Borja region of Spain. The grapes for all of their wines are harvested from the same estate vineyards, and all spend time in 100% new French and American oak barrels. These wines are balanced, lush, high-toned, old vine, unblended Grenache.

This wine converts more skeptics to the virtues of this alluring varietal than any other producer.

"Veraton" comes from vines only slightly younger (30-50 years) and is aged in barrels for 16 months. It is a wine with an attractive collection of balsamic notes, of chocolate and black fruits, with incredibly lush mouthfeel and an extremely pleasant finish.

We just received 48 bottles at a sale price we've negotiated to pass on to you today!

2020 Alto Moncayo Veraton Garnacha

Campo de Borja, Spain

93 Points, "Exceptional" - Tastings.com:

"Burnt sienna color. Aromas and flavors of chocolate covered cherries, leather, sweet cherry tobacco, and dark roast coffee with a round, crisp, dryish medium body and a warming, interesting, medium-length finish with accents of cherry mole sauce, fig jam, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and and leather with medium tannins and light oak flavor. Bold and ripe with well integrated oak; sure to be a crowd pleaser."

92 Points - James Suckling:

"Slightly tarry on the nose with roasted spices to the dark cherries and strawberries. Medium to full body on the palate with more innate fruit allures and tannins. Shows good balance and length with some fine-grained tannins. Drink or hold."

91 Points - Wine Spectator:

“An elegant red, with a dark fruit core of boysenberry coulis, black plum reduction and dried fig buoyed by fresh, well-cut acidity. Delivers an appealing range of star anise, mocha, dried mint and rose hip notes that add detail and complexity, while lightly chalky tannins firm the graphite- and spice-laced finish. Drink now through 2028. 3,800 cases imported.”
