A Tribute to Larry
October was the hardest month in the most difficult year ever. The day that every dog lover dreads came for me and my 15 year old best friend. He had spinal stenosis and arthritis that slowly made it just too difficult to get up and then to walk. My heart aches for anyone who ever had to make this decision. You're never sure that the time is right or that you did everything that you possibly could. Even though it broke my heart to let him go, I knew that I couldn't let him suffer or be in any more pain.
He was a beautiful and unique black and white mutt with extraordinarily long legs that I rescued from Animal Friends in 2005. He was the inspiration for this business and is the very logo of it. I'm not going to lie, he hated getting a bath and watching me work but he loved all the treats and visiting with the dogs. I gave him the best raw diet and treats, long daily walks mostly in the woods, soft orthopedic beds and supplements for his arthritis. He had accupuncture, laser light therapy and even stem cell therapy.
I don't know what happens when we die or if I will ever see him again outside of my dreams but I do know that I got to share 15 wonderful years with the Best Dog Ever and for that I am eternally grateful.
