Hello, Everyone.

In talking to Dade County Stakeholders, the words TRADITION, CHARACTER and SCHOLARSHIP continue to be the focus of conversations. This past week, the Homecoming tradition was alive and well. Tyler King was elected Homecoming King and Alyssa Konrad was elected Homecoming Queen. Our students enjoyed spirited dress-up days with various themes. The Homecoming Parade was a huge success thanks to the tireless efforts of Alan Morris, Megan Baugh and Becky Goff and others. The bonfire revealed Wolverine spirit and youthful enthusiasm.

A BIG THANK YOU goes to Daniel Case for once again building the bonfire. And, what parade or bonfire would be complete without the drum cadence and music played by our superior-rated band, directed by Mr. and Mrs. Chance? Get your Kleenex and check out the 2018 Homecoming FANTASTIC VIDEO Mr. Hurst and his students created by clicking here.

I had lunch with students of character at Dade Elementary last week. These students received awards from the PTO and Principal Tracy Blevins for various acts of kindness. I so enjoyed speaking to each grade level at Davis and Dade Elementary. We talked about my favorite president, Abraham Lincoln, a man of character. He loved learning and, as such, exemplifies the first character theme this year: Knowledge.

Scholarship is our work. We collectively focus on learning so that our students prepare for their future. We intentionally look at not only student achievement, but also student growth from one year to the next. This week I am delighted to congratulate Ms. Laura Colvin for having the highest student growth rate on the Georgia Milestones Test. See the chart below for more information on growth and achievement.

It is an honor for me to view Dade County's students through the lens of Tradition, Character and Scholarship. We have outstanding students, and I am blessed to serve as their superintendent.
