Stop me if you’ve heard this one before… “When a quilt shop owner plans, someone in the supply chain laughs”.

After the last 3 years of ups and downs I really should know better. That said though, how could anyone anticipate that what was to be an overnight shipment, from Montreal to Uxbridge, could possibly take an entire week? And yet, that’s exactly what happened this week with a third of the Kim Diehl shipment being held in limbo at a mystery location not far from my house. 

We've had a pretty busy week and having a wayward shipment was not part of the plan. The extra stress has left me feeling "blue" which is a good thing given the new collection from Quilters Cupboard favourite, Kim Diehl.

I wrote this email in advance hoping that the fabric would arrive by the time the email needed to go out. Thankfully it arrived at the last possible minute. Thank goodness too! I didn't have it in me to come up with something new late on a Friday night.

Kim Diehl has impressed us once again with her collection ‘Willow Hollow.’ This 20-piece collection includes a range of aquas and blues. The fabric patterns feature curlicues, meandering dots, heart blossoms, cross hatch, cameos, lace, flowers, cabbage roses, clam shell, foulard, dotted crescents, tulip vines, stair-stepped boxes, moire stripe, and pear orchard.

What's not to love?

Do you ever wonder where designers draw their inspiration?

For Kim, the inspiration for Willow Hollow came from her collection of vintage glass, pottery, enamel and blue willoware china. The collection began with traditional tones of navy and indigo, and then Henry Glass and Kim took the colour scheme one step further and added touches of cobalt, teal and dusty aqua. We are definitely glad that they did.

What about the backgrounds?

Creamy, snowy white prints are new for Kim but for the rich tones in this collection, they were exactly what was needed.

The complete collection is available as 20-piece fat quarter and fat eighth bundles as well as 42-piece charm packs that include duplicates of the fabrics.

Fill your home with flowers from this fantastic quilt! Flower Peddler by Kim Diehl is a beautiful bouquet of flower blocks that is fat quarter and fat eighth-friendly, and it grows best with rich colours and contrast.

Kim Diehl's creativity knows no bounds, but I think she missed the mark with the name of this starry quilt. Patchwork and Appliqué Quilt... that's it? Maybe we'll blame Henry Glass for this name.

As sweet as the individual patchwork star blocks are in this quilt, the magic really happens once they are mingled with simple appliquéd setting blocks to create the illusion of circles.

From Kim Diehl's Simple Whatnots II, the True Blue table topper pattern has been delightfully reimagined in Kim Diehl's Willow Hollow collection. While the name is True Blue, it takes on a greener feel with this collection.
