Today's reading tells of how the Lord was disobeyed, that the people hardened their hearts and turned their backs to the Lord. Furthermore, in the Gospel, Jesus himself says that "whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters."

These readings seem pretty scary to me. Turned backs to Jesus, evil hearts hardened against the Lord, becoming an enemy of Christ.

How terrible all these things sound, and yet we do them every day. Even though we often hear God's voice calling us in many ways, more often are the times when we deny what our hearts - yearning for God and for love - are telling us.

As we enter into the second half of this Lenten season:
  • Let us remember to listen to God's voice in our daily lives;
  • Let us not harden our hearts, but open them;
  • Let us not turn our back on Christ, but turn towards Him;
  • Let us not walk down the path of evil, but walk in the light of Christ's soon-coming sacrifice.
