Today we hear of Jonah's trek to Ninevah, delivering the message from God to repent or perish in forty days. After avoiding the first request from God, Jonah comes to know the Lord's forgiveness in the belly of the whale.

God's love and compassion are great, in order to remind us that we are called to repent our sins and turn back to Him, in order to receive his forgiveness.

In Luke's gospel, Jesus tells the crowd that as Jonah was the sign for the Ninevite, so will the Son of Man be to the current generation. As Jonah was brought back after three days to help rescue Ninevah, so too was Jesus brought back for our salvation.

In our own Lenten journey, let us be reminded to ask God for forgiveness, continue always to live through prayer, and do all He asks for the glory of His name.
