Though a relatively new domaine, founded in 1979, Faury is rooted in traditions generations old.
Under Philippe Faury's guidance, the winery has expanded to its current 17ha of vineyards, nearly all so steep that they must be terraced. Both Philippe and his son Lionel carry out backbreaking work to ensure the vineyards are perfectly cared for. The Faurys eschew new oak in large quantity, and fermentation is carried out only by foot pigeage.
Their plots, specifically selected with south and southeastern aspects, are predominately planted on granite based soils. There is a good combination of old vine character in all their vineyards, but especially within St. Joseph. Across the board, these Syrah-based wines are pure, precise, offer ample upfront pleasure, and will only get better with a little age.
"This is a Syrah of great finesse, loaded with perfume, made from a few vineyards just outside the Saint Joseph appellation. You'll be awed by the quality, the pure pleasure, of this gorgeous bottle of wine." -From the winery
"Opaque ruby. Intensely perfumed aromas of ripe red and dark berries, violet and smoky minerals, accompanied by a hint of olive that sneaks up with air. Sappy and focused on the palate, offering lively, spice-tinged black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors that turn sweeter through the midpalate. Finishes quite long, with lingering sweetness, very good clarity and gentle tannic grip."
"Bright purple. Pungent dark berry, cherry, olive and licorice scents are sharpened by peppery spice and mineral flourishes. Appealingly sweet blueberry, cassis and violet pastille flavors slowly deepen in the glass and pick up a smoky accent on the back half. Finishes smooth and long, displaying gentle sweetness, rounded tannins and a persistent floral note."
"Brilliant magenta. Highly perfumed, mineral-accented aromas of dark fruit liqueur, pungent flowers, olive and cracked pepper show very good clarity and energetic lift. Juicy blackberry, boysenberry and floral pastille flavors display excellent clarity and velvety texture. The impressively long, floral-driven finish features well-knit tannins and lingering spice and mineral notes."
