This week
Ruth
During the last few crazy months we have been delivering weekly library updates to you through this eNewsletter. As we start to settle back into 'normal', we will return to fortnightly emails, once again separating our specialised news lists for Families and Reboot (digital literacy). Our next eNewsletter will go out in a fortnight and only be sent to the main eNewsletter mailing list as we return to our usual schedule of online communication. Thank you for reading during these recent times.

In the meantime, our blog is coming into its own on our website. I'm getting a good feel for managing it and it is the best place to find current library information. Don't hesitate to leave us a comment there or on our contact page.

There has been a lot of video production this week. On top of our regular Storytime and Wriggletime videos, we have released a number of videos related to the school holiday program. Check out our YouTube Channel for all the goodies including some yummy recipes from Scoffed Cooking School.

More public computers are now available with a variety of time limits. Please ask at the Libraries for details.

In other news, Jake is leaving us! It is with great sadness that we see him depart the City of Unley, but he has been offered a great opportunity and will be exploring that at another library. We wish him the absolute best for his future. He will be greatly missed. He made a great partner in crime in Promotions and I will miss his sense of humour, our ongoing discussion regarding summer vs winter and the rubberband war that exists between our desks. Next Monday and Tuesday are his last days with us, so wish him well if you see him.

Stay safe and well, and I hope to see you in the Libraries.

PS: Amelia tells me that the flatbread recipe below is just divine - she makes it regularly for herself and her little boy. Every time I scroll past the image, I want to eat it.
Please note: we are now combining communication across our three subscription lists, the main library eNews, the family eNews and the Reboot eNews. We plan to deliver content relevant to all our audiences. However, if you do not wish to receive these emails please unsubscribe at the bottom of the email.

A Room Made of Leaves by Kate Grenville

For fans of  Burial Rights  by Hannah Kent, and  The True History of the Kelly Gang  by Peter Carey, this is one of Australia's greatest and most loved writers at her best.

At the centre of A room Made of Leaves is one of the most toxic issues of our own age: the seductive appeal of false stories. This book may be set in the past, but it’s just as much about the present, where secrets and lies have the dangerous power to shape reality.

A ground-breaking work that turns historical fiction inside out, Grenville turns the stereotype of the good and docile wife on its head, giving life to an enigmatic and misunderstood woman
Quick and Easy Recipes for Home

We have worked with the amazing chefs at Scoffed Cooking School to bring you and your families some culinary education. There are two quick and easy recipes that are perfect for little or big chefs to make; Peanut Butter Protein Balls and Flat Breads from Scratch. I have tried these and can tell you that they are very yummy and useful for the afternoon munchies!

Cooking with children and young people is great for learning time management and mathematics, as well as resulting in some delicious snacks. If you enjoy these recipes then you can also register for Scoffed's virtual cooking class on making Mexican Sopes, Monday 13 July, 2.30pm.

In this current climate of many of us spending a lot more time online, it also means we may be more vulnerable to online scams and security threats.

Check out this helpful resource, created by Scamwatch, to help educate you on how to avoid scams, what to do if you suspect a scam, and how to report something suspicious. This pocket guide covers everything from email, banking and social media scams, to lottery, fundraising, jobs and business scams.

You can also visit the Australian Government's Scamwatch site here: https://www.scamwatch.gov.au/

More top tips on staying safe online from the library Reboot team:

  • Keep your passwords safe and secure - if there is any doubt over the security of any password, login and change it immediately.
  • Keep passwords complex and difficult to guess. Use capital letters, numbers, and symbols in your passwords, where possible.
  • If something looks suss - lean on the side of caution. Check the email address - is it from someone you don't know? Does the email address have typos and strange spelling or formatting? These are signs that the email may be fraudulent. Never open an attachment or click on a link you are unsure of.
  • If you believe any email is a scam, delete it immediately.
  • Banks, government agencies and other financial institutions and service providers will never ask for your financial or personal identifiers in an email. If you are unsure, call your bank, or provider, and speak to someone in person.
  • Keep online shopping to reputable websites with appropriate security measures in place. Look for the letters: 'https' before the 'www' in the website address bar. The 's' indicates you are on a secure website (you may also spot a little padlock icon in the address bar).
