Harrison Hills Park

This popular stop on the Red Trail in Harrison Hills Park offers a breathtaking view of the Allegheny River and the abundance of colorful trees lining it this time of year. Park in the Overlook Lot and follow the path to the Overlook. Bring your camera and send us your photos!

Round Hill Park

This beauty in all its fall splendor is pictured along the Hereford Drive paved trail in Round Hill Park in October, 2020. This road offers enough elevation - and a great workout - to capture a great view of changing leaves.

Boyce Park Indian Hill Meadow

Trudge up the walking path in Indian Hill Meadow in Boyce Park, turn around and look down when you reach the top. This is the view you'll get. This is a perfect spot to take in one of the best autumn scenes of the season. Enjoy the goldfinches munching on the drying flower heads in the meadow on your way down.

Changing leaves are the hallmark of all nine parks this time of year. Visit them all!

Calling in the experts for sculpture conservation

The transformation of the great lawn to the Sculpture Garden at Hartwood Acres is humming along. Walking paths are being poured, sculptures are settling into their final resting places and plans are in the works for the addition of the newly commissioned piece by local sculptor Dee Briggs.

It turns out we're not the only ones excited about these developments. Our partners at McKay Lodge Art Conservation Laboratory featured this project in recent promotional material. These experts, located in Oberlin, Ohio, were selected to undertake the detailed work of bringing six sculptures back to their original glory.

If you haven't discovered the South Ridge Trail in North Park yet, this could be your chance. There's some ups, some downs and beautiful views throughout on this wooded trail with features to please everyone. Take advantage of this opportunity to see North Park at its seasonal finest.

The South Ridge Trail Challenge offers races from 5K-20K with virtual races too. Everyone who signs up has the option to make a contribution to the Allegheny County Parks Foundation, your partner in the parks. Please consider supporting your parks!

Finishing the Rachel Carson Trail Challenge in North Park

This energetic family set out on a challenging venture: visit all nine Allegheny County Parks. Grandparents Sarah and Tal designed their very own "Tour de Allegheny County Parks" with their grandchildren and they chronicled their adventures for family and friends in a monthly newsletter.

Some of the highlights were the babbling waterfall at the bottom of the Waterfall Trail in Settlers Cabin Park, the playgrounds at Deer Lakes, Boyce and White Oak parks, the checkerboard table at South Park and the chubby pig at Round Hill Park.

We're delighted they shared these special experiences with us and thrilled that they are starting a repeat Tour shortly. Bravo to these committed park lovers for passing along their passion for open spaces and fresh air to the next generation.
