Safety Topic: January Accident History
Over the past couple of years, we have seen a pattern of an increased number of accidents in the month of January.

Below are some examples of accidents we have seen, along with the reasons why they occurred:
  • Slips/Trips/Falls - Getting out of personal vehicles/equipment onto the ground (or trailer) without establishing proper footing.
  • Muscle Strains - Lifting items without the proper equipment or failing to ask for help when dealing with heavy objects.
  • Equipment Issues - Inadequate/no pre-trip inspection performed before use, resulting in failure.
  • Backing Accidents - Failure to use mirrors, 360 inspections, spotters, or backup cameras.
  • Equipment Collision - Slippery conditions causing a loss of traction and the operator not slowing down accordingly.
  • Cuts/Lacerations - Failure to use gloves while cutting or lifting sharp objects.
All of these accidents could have been prevented by paying attention to surroundings and not cutting any corners.

Especially when it is cold out, people have a tendency to try and get things done more quickly, by any means possible. If you skip steps, it creates new hazards that could hurt yourself or your crew members.

Please take a moment to rework your plan and evaluate what's going on around you before it causes a much larger issue.
We only have 1 Good Catch / Near Miss submission for the month of January, so be sure to report them to your supervisor!
