Kiddush This Week

Thank you to our Sponsor Sam Zwillich,

in memory of his father, Alexander Zwillich and his grandfather, Sam (Solomon) Bohn

Enjoy a Dairy Kiddush this week.

With prayers finally answered, the remains of the last October 7 hostage have been returned to Israel. The body of Ran Gvili was located in Gaza by IDF and his identity has been confirmed. May his family hopefully find spiritual peace with his long awaited return home. "Tehi nishmatoh tzerurah bitzror hachaim / May his soul be bound in the bond of eternal life".

National Museum of American Jewish Military History – “American Jewish Soldiers and the Liberation of the Concentration Camps”

Thursday, February 5 @ 8:30 PM

Jewish American Soldiers played an important role in liberating Nazi concentration camps during World War II. Beginning in the spring of 1945, the U.S. Army began uncovering these camps, revealing the horrific realities of the Holocaust. Jewish soldiers, many of whom were fluent in Yiddish, were not only witnesses to the atrocities but also the first to offer solace and a sense of community to the survivors. The presentation will highlight their unique position as liberators that were simultaneously U.S. Army soldiers and members of the Jewish community, emphasizing their ability to communicate with survivors and provide immediate support and understanding amidst the chaos and devastation.

Michael Rugel is the Director of Programs and Content at the National Museum of American Jewish Military History.

Prior to that he served on the museum's collections management staff.

Hachnasat Sefer Torah in Kibbutz Sufa

In July 2024, Beth David members visited Israel on a mission to bring optimism, hope and support to our brethren in Israel. Over the course of the mission we visited injured soldiers at Hadassah Hospital, prepared Shabbat food for IDF in a community kitchen in Rishon L'Tzion, brought toys to a day camp for displaced children; and we spent an afternoon with survivors of the Hamas attack at Kibbutz Sufa. The kibbutz was in ruins and the "kibbutzniks" were living in borrowed apartments miles from home. The rebuilt Kibbutz Sufa opened this fall with 90% of its original citizenry returning home. Last week, Kibbutz Sufa became the proud owner of its first post October 7 Torah. Symbolically, it is a scroll that survived the Holocaust, it was recently refurbished; and it was gifted the Sufa synagogue. Please see a portion of the Torah dedication celebrations that took place last week as the Torah was welcomed to its new home.

Thank you to our Generous Donors:

  • Selma Schein to the Rabbi's Discretionary Fund in memory of Susan Levine
  • Ed Schwartz to the General Fund
  • Barbara Ungar, to the Chesed (Kindness) Fund in appreciation for the Beth David community and Rabbi and Lesley Adler.
