Jewish Istanbul

Istanbul, a city of striking contrasts, intertwines diverse religions and cultures, serving as the junction between two continents. A modern-day embodiment of ancient Constantinople, it presents a breathtaking panorama of towering minarets and domes surrounded by water, bathed in a golden from the sun. Within its many neighborhoods lie numerous synagogues, each with its unique narrative, telling tales of the Jews who built them and worshiped within. Join me in an exploration of the Jewish heritage sites of this amazing city. As a proud member of Istanbul's vibrant Jewish community, I invite you to acquaint yourself with the richness of Turkish Jewish culture of Turkish Jewish culture.

Nisya Isman Allovi is Director and Curator of The Quincentennial Foundation Museum of Turkish Jews.

Community Announcements

GREATER HARTFORD FOR ISRAEL ANNOUNCES AN END TO THE WEEKLY MARCHES

We are thrilled to see the living hostages coming home and the beginning of the process of returning the remains of those who were killed. After internal discussion, guidance from “Run for their Lives”, and an assessment of the situation in Israel, we’ve decided to discontinue the weekly marches for the hostages and for Israel.

It has been incredible marching with you all of these weeks. Your support and commitment has been incredible. The community built around the marches has been a true inspiration. We’ve turned frustration and anger into action and impact. Thank you for everything! We are planning a final get together/celebration of our collective efforts on the afternoon of Sunday, November 2 at 3:30PM at the Mandell JCC; please come out and join us.
