YOUR BETH EL FAMILY IS HERE FOR YOU!

IF YOU ARE IN NEED OF ASSISTANCE WITH SHOPPING OR ANYTHING ELSE DURING THESE DIFFICULT TIMES, PLEASE CONTACT OUR OFFICE. WE WILL TRY OUR BEST TO MEET YOUR NEEDS.

The situation with COVID-19 is changing daily, and we are continuing to adapt in real time to the shifting circumstances. I want to assure you that although our team at Federation is working remotely, we are fully operational and committed to continuing our important work. This includes helping our most vulnerable community members and
protecting our vital institutions.

Here is a summary of our efforts over the last few days:

·      The Jewish Community Pandemic Emergency Relief Fund will help our institutions manage through the COVID-19 crisis, address social service needs, and provide emergency assistance to community members in need. We are $24,000 away from our initial goal of $100,000. Click here to make a gift now.

·      Federation, and members of the community, have committed over $100,000 to the First Coast Relief Fund. These funds can be accessed through JFCS for members of our Jewish community. Please call Hilary for more information: 904-394-5722.

·      Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) provides informative resources and connections to a virtual community, visit www.jewishtogether.org .

·      In a time of social-distancing, volunteering would seem to be counter to what we should be doing, however, we have compiled a number of volunteer opportunities where you can safely help your community. Click here to sign up.

*If you or anyone you know cannot leave your home to go shopping, we have a team of volunteers willing to assist you with this. Please call me at 904-616-1007 and we will work on getting you assistance.

·      We have compiled a listing of local religious services and other virtual gatherings, as well as online resources for families and children, health and wellness, kosher food delivery and more. For more information, click here

Of course, Federation’s response is but one piece of what our community is doing as a whole. We are inspired by the many acts of care and compassion we are seeing across Northeast Florida, and are grateful to all of you for your support and for all you are doing
to help others during this time. It is clear our community is well equipped to look after one another, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Thank you again for being an integral part of this effort and for all you have done to build a strong and caring community. We will continue to stay in touch regularly, in the days and weeks ahead, so that we can continue to make it through this difficult time together.

Wishing you and your family a healthy, restful Shabbat Shalom,

Alan Margolies,
Executive Director

Preparing for Passover has now become easier.

Shalom,

I pray that you and are families are well. This unbelievably challenging time in our lives is offering us an opportunity to be resourceful in so many ways. Perhaps you are playing new games, discovering a new hobby, reading a book that has been on your nightstand for too long, enriching your life with an online class or cleaning and decluttering! Or perhaps like many of us you are living day to day wondering what is going on, when is it going to end and what will our world look like when this is under control. I would like to share that I am very confident that together we WILL get through us, we WILL celebrate Shabbat together, the children’s laughter will again be heard at Beth El on Sunday mornings and next year for Passover, we WILL be with our loved ones at the same table.

The teachers of Beth El Religious School are incredibly resourceful in discovering new opportunities to connect with our wonderful students! The teachers have been emailing and connecting with their families! The next session will give all students the chance to see their teacher, madrachim and each other on Zoom!! Parents, please check your email for the time on April 19 for your child’s class to meet on Zoom.

Honestly, I am in awe after speaking with some of you as to the number of challenges you are facing and overcoming every day. I am sharing some of the challenges because if this is what you are experiencing, you are not alone! I would also love your feedback as to the challenges you are facing and either how you are overcoming them or how we can help!

·          Discovering ways to celebrate Passover with family and friends while social distancing.
·          Working from home with 3 teenagers doing on line school and only one computer in the house.
·          Encouraging a reluctant learner to complete the tasks required by his/her teacher.
·          Connecting with local family (grandparents, siblings, etc) while social distancing.
·          Entertaining a pre-schooler while working from home.
·          Encouraging drivers in your neighborhood to slow down and pay attention while the children are outside, bike riding, etc.

Stay safe and be well,

Vickie
We are hoping that these future events will still take place.
