World famous Plymouth
Not the town...our 1962 Plymouth Valiant forever memorialized by NYC and the MTA Bridges and Tunnel Authority Cameras. Let me explain. Everything (or almost everything) is an adventure. Having just gotten married, moving into our apartment in Fresh Meadows (Queens), Lew suggested I drive into Manhattan and meet him for dinner. Awesome idea! So, onto the Long Island Expressway I go. Rocking right along, paying the toll, I realize this tunnel entrance has two lanes going into Manhattan and, knowing I have to go north when I exit the tunnel, I get into the right lane (two overhead green arrows indicating I am doing everything right), then " clunk". Uh oh....flat tire. Wait....in the middle of the tunnel, the lane to my left suddenly has a RED 'X' and my lane now has a RED"X". What is happening? Over the loud speaker, someone is loudly giving ME instructions to stay in the car. Did they think I was going to get out and change the tire? Not! Literally two minutes later, a tow truck appears in the left lane (makes a U turn...how did he do that?) hooks up our Valiant and tows me to the Manhattan side of the tunnel, changes the tire, and sends me on my way. I was a little late in meeting Lew. After asking if I hit too much traffic, I told him what a "cool" thing had just happened. I guess it's just how you look at things!
