Weddings and Such
Just got back from Memphis. Our great niece's wedding to her fiancee. Must have been close to 200 in attendance. College roommates (UT - University of Texas) childhood friends from Memphis, San Antonio, Austin, and Long Island, Jewish camp friends and counselors, families in attendance from all over the country. I realized that the Jewish connection is so strong, especially in the South, creating a lifetime of Jewishness.
The Chuppah with family weddings' names embroidered on the corners...breaking the glass, the Ketubah...all of our traditions folded in. Sometimes, I think that these traditions were a bulwark against what we faced growing up in the deep South, but now I know, it is simply and profoundly our faith internalized into our very being.
