Ministry Highlight

Bro. Warren Howell, has led the "Thursday Club" ministry, as we've known it, for 26 years. This ministry has carried out a great charge in being dedicated to mentoring and guiding young boys.

Bro. Warren and faithful adult men, Evangelist Keith Illidge, Bro. Juan Roach, Bro. Jack Booker and many others in the past have worked to provide the boys of Bethel and the surrounding neighborhoods an opportunity to fellowship in a Christian setting. While being mentored on all aspects of life, they learn biblical lessons and how to integrate them into their lives.

This month we recognize Bro. Warren and the faithful men, who today and in the past have planted good seeds into youth and helped to develop our young BOYS into MEN.

THANK YOU "THURSDAY CLUB"!!

Note: As of 2022, this group meets on 2nd & 3rd Fridays at 7pm

in the Annex (Ages 8-18)

Hear first hand from a product of this great ministry below:

"Thursday Club was a group of men, many with their own families to tend to, yet once a week taking the time out to be father figures and mentors to other people's sons. If anyone tells you black men don't step up in their communities, you should point them to the Thursday Club and other organizations like it around the country".

Dr. Carol E. Henderson—the proud mama of Kelsey Henderson

I often hear people mention the scripture “iron sharpens iron” when they speak of mentoring and the communal bond men develop with each other OR the sojourners—young men— they have been gifted to guide along life’s path. I like to use another scripture as well:

Give instruction to a wise man and he will be still wiser,

Teach a righteous man and he will increase his learning.—Proverbs 9:9

AND

A wise man will hear and increase in learning,

And a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel.—Proverbs 1:5

The Thursday Club is the space where my son can acquire understanding and wise counsel among godly men who understand what it is to be a black boy—and now a man in America. It was my son’s safe haven as a young man. It is his brotherhood now. The young men taking the journey with him will always be his brothers…and the wonderful men who lead the Thursday Club— Warren, Evangelist Keith Illidge—those who did Mike Payne, Tim Leath—those men who were ministerial advisors to the Thursday Club, Rev. Kenny and Rev. Keith Johnson—that is the community that walked with me—that I trusted as a single mother to help me nurture my son and gracefully guide him through his rite of passage as a young man into adulthood. For affirming who he is as a man of God. As a young man worthy of love, respect and appreciation. I will never forget them. When people ask me about my son Kelsey, and compliment me on the wonderful young man he is, I speak of the village that helped me raise him. And we were blessed with an amazing one.

Blessings,

Dr. Carol

Church School Message

Dear Family and Friends,

There are many notable events that occur within the month of June. As a Christian we must remember the day of Pentecost. During Pentecost the disciples were given a special gift, as they were filled with the Holy Spirit they began to speak in other languages. Imagine hearing your own language from some person that was never taught or heard your language! The day of Pentecost gave birth to the Christian church. Pentecost will be celebrated this year on June 5, 2022. You can read more about this event in Acts 2:1-8.

Juneteenth and Father’s Day also occur in the month of June. The entire country will celebrate Father’s Day on June 19, 2022. Not only will the country remember Father’s Day on this date but also Juneteenth, the true Independence Day for African Americans. Father’s Day has a rich heritage and reminds us that part of our legacy lives through paternal bonds. Take the time out to call or wish someone special in your life a happy Father’s Day!

Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom known as the second Independence Day for African Americans. This is a day that commemorates the effective end of slavery in the United States.

We invite you to come and learn about God’s deliverance and restoration for the month of June!

This month's lessons:

June 5 God Foretells Destruction Isaiah 47:10-15

June 12 God Foretells Redemption Isaiah 49:1-13

June 19 God’s People Shall Prosper Isaiah 49:18-23

June 26 God Offers Deliverance Isaiah 51:1-8

Respectfully Submitted, Sister Renee’ Bryant
