Missy's Message

On November 27, 2016, we welcomed in our first two moms. Since then we have provided a home – shelter, safety, structure and love to 31 young women and their babies. Every stay looks very different but our mission is that each mom experiences the love of Jesus while they are here.

Because our model is so unique and we utilize volunteers in such a wide variety of roles, we have implemented an annual refresher program that is vital for all volunteers to attend. If you were trained more than a year ago, please see below for more details. This is necessary to provide the moms at Bethesda House the consistency needed. Thank you very much to those that have already attended.

We are always looking to improve how things are done at BH. Please know that all suggestions, thoughts, ideas are always welcome.

There are numerous areas where you can use your God-given talents to support Bethesda House where opportunities are flexible depending on your availability. We require that you attend one of our 3-hour training sessions if you plan to provide direct care to the mothers and babies. Please attend our next training on January 11th to familiarize yourself with our organization, our mission, and with the various ways you can support Bethesda House. Training begins at 9:00am but we invite you to join us at 8:45 for coffee! Register today >> https://bethesdahousema.org/get-involved/direct-care-volunteering/
Carol is a native of Connecticut, and she received her degree from UMass Dartmouth. She taught elementary education in several Christian schools for over 20 years in both CT and MA as well as homeschooling both of her sons before joining the staff at New Testament Christian School. In addition to her teaching career, Carol spent several years doing elder care. After working with children and the elderly, she is enjoying her interaction with women and their babies at BH! Carol and her husband, Dennis, live in South Plymouth, and attend the New Testament Church of Cedarville. They have two grown sons and they anticipate multiple grandchildren some day. "I am blessed to be a part of the lives of the women and babies at BH and am excited to see what God's doing and will continue to do in their lives! To Him be the glory!"
At Bethesda House, policies and procedures are constantly changing and in order for us to keep up with our growth it is imperative that active volunteers are on the same page. We have offered three refresher sessions earlier this fall so we are asking those of you who have not yet attended to select either of the following options:

1: Moving forward, refreshers will be covered in our regularly scheduled New Volunteer Sessions. Register for ONE of the next TWO Volunteer Training Sessions (before January 1st) where the first portion will serve as the "Refresher". The next two Volunteer Training sessions are being held: January 11th and March 12th. Register for a training session: https://bethesdahousema.org/get-involved/direct-care-volunteering/

2: Let us know that you are no longer interested/able to volunteer at Bethesda House. Please email mp@bethesdahousema.org to let us know that we should remove you from our volunteer alert lists. We understand that life is busy and that interests change but we hope that you will continue to support Bethesda House in other ways.
We’ve changed our Mentor Role and will now be looking for transportation to and from Duxbury Church on Sundays. Service starts at 9:30 and ends around 11:00. Pick up at BH will be 9:10am and then from Duxbury Church (2 Tremont St. Duxbury) will be 11:15. If you are available for a ride please include your name and quantity of seats you have available.

Bethesda House will be hosting author Vera Bondar Abbott who will present her book “To Elena” at the Pembroke Public Library on December 10th from 6:00pm-8:15pm. Vera will have copies of her book available for sale and for signing. Light refreshments will also be served.

“To Elena” is the true story of a young woman who learns to survive amid the oppression of a government that silences or kills anyone it considers an enemy of the state-anyone educated, anyone wealthy, anyone who does not conform to the government’s way of thinking. Fifteen year old Elena’s family has been torn apart by the Communist Revolution. Living in remote Siberia, she is trying to find a new purpose when a mysterious man appears in her village— an exile whose controversial message sabotages all her plans and sends her life tumbling in a new direction. Please email elabbott@comcast.net if you plan to attend so Vera can have an approximate number of attendees.

If you are unable to attend and would like a copy of "To Elena", you can purchase the book online: https://www.amazon.com/Elena-True-Story-Bondar/dp/1549949527/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=to+elena&qid=1572809421&sr=8-1
