Welcome to the 2019-2020 season!

A few words from our Technical Director Jonathon Colton

Dear Bethesda SC Families:

I hope everyone has had a great summer break and ample opportunity to spend time with their families.

BSC has seen a number of changes this summer, with some exciting new opportunities for all. I would like to take this opportunity to update you and welcome you back for what we expect to be an exciting fall season.

As I write this, we are completing registration of over 1,350 Travel Players as a result of the very successful tryouts in May. The travel program has added more than 100 new players to our rosters!

After being involved with the boys program for 18 years, and serving as the Director of Coaching for 12 of those, I am excited to get started in my new role as Technical Director of the Bethesda SC Boys and Girls Programs. It is clear to me that we have some very talented coaches and players in the Girls Program and I am genuinely looking forward to working with them.

In my new role, I will be overseeing all six directors:
-            Boys YDP (U7-U11:) Trevor Martin, USSF ‘B’ Licensed
-           Girls YDP (U7- U11:) Emily Janss, USSF ‘A’ Licensed
-           Boys Junior Director (U12-U14:) Brett Colton, USSF ‘A’ License
-           Girls Junior Director (U12-U14:) Dave Greene, USSF ‘A’ License
-           Older Boys Director (U15-U19,) Matt Ney, USSF ‘A’ License
-           Older Girls Director (U15-U19), Kevin Layton, USSF ‘A’ Licensed

These Directors will oversee the coaches in their respective age groups and ensure that the expectations and philosophies of BSC are maintained throughout the club.

As many of you know, our main goal at Bethesda SC is to provide an environment where every player has the opportunity to develop to their fullest potentials and achieve their personal goals, whether that is playing high school soccer, college soccer or playing professionally.

This year, 40 young men and women from BSC will be playing college soccer in the 2019-20 season and vying for starting spots at their respective schools. This makes BSC one of the most successful programs in the country at pacing players in the college soccer ranks!

Our new SportsRecruits software is a customized tool that, along with their coach’s input, will help guide each player through their College Process. Additionally, we have a partnership with the  Soccer Parenting Association  to help parents as they navigate this competitive landscape of youth soccer.

Coming off a successful year on the pitch in 2018/19, our teams are geared up and ready to compete in the top Leagues in the Country. The Girls U12-U19 Teams will compete in the ECNL and ECNL II Leagues, along with EDP. The Boys U12-U19 Teams will be competing in US Soccer's Development Academy, the USYSA National League, the EDP Club to Club National League and the NCSL.

Our YDP Teams U7-U11 will compete locally, in the DMV, in the CCL, EDP Futures, EDP & NCSL leagues, as well as in SAM Select.

Finally, our U15, U17 and U19 Boys DA Teams have been placed in the Top Tier of the US Soccer Development Academy for the coming season. BSC will join the top 30 clubs in the country in what will certainly be a experience for our players!

We are very excited to get started this season and I look forward to seeing you on the pitch!

Jonathon Colton
Technical Director
Bethesda Soccer Club
