First appearing in the 1960s, the Bethlehem Steel 100-Ton Three-Bay Hopper quickly gained popularity across North America for its increased capacity and robust construction when compared with previous designs. Many railroads bought these cars in bulk to use on unit coal trains, and by the end of the decade they could be found hauling raw materials from coast to coast. Production lasted for many years, with railroads such as CSX® and Norfolk Southern continuing to use the design well into the 21st century. Today their purposes have expanded to include maintenance-of-way and stone service, as they continue to serve class-one railroads across the United States. Available in our Silver Series® rolling stock range in both HO and N scale, the Bethlehem Steel 100 Ton Three-Bay Hopper comes fully detailed featuring an accurate appearance, removable coal or stone load (per prototype), separately applied brake wheel, body-mounted E-Z Mate® Mark II knuckle couplers, and blackened metal wheels.
