Bethlehem University Foundation Invests New Patrons at Reception at the Residence of the Holy See to the United Nations
On the 5th of April, 2018, the Bethlehem University Foundation invested a new class of Patrons at the reception at the Residence of the Holy See to the United Nations. The evening was graciously hosted by His Excellency, Archbishop Bernardito Auza, Apostolic Nuncio and Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations. Brother Joseph Loewenstein, FSC, was invested as an Honorary Patron of the Bethlehem University Foundation. Brother Joe, as he was affectionately known on campus, served at Bethlehem University for 35 years as teacher, President, Vice Chancellor, dean, and in recent years as tutor, mentor, advocate for disabled and needy students, and greeter of thousands of visitors. The Board of Directors of the Bethlehem University Foundation created the  Patrons of Bethlehem University Foundation in 2016. The Patrons are those individuals or couples who make a qualifying gift to the Annual Fund of the Bethlehem University Foundation. By their gift, the Patrons invest themselves into the work of the Foundation.
Board Member, Mr. Joseph Starshak, KHS, and his wife Mrs. Mary Clare Starshak, D.M., were invested as Bronze Patrons of the Bethlehem University Foundation. Mr. Starshak has been a principal of the Starshak Winzenburg companies since March 1991, providing financial advice to corporations, governments, and not-for-profit institutions nationwide. Mrs. Starshak, an attorney, currently sits on the Character and Fitness Panel of the Illinois Supreme Court.
Also invested as Bronze Patrons were Mr. Mark Chopko, KHS, and Mrs. Jane Chopko. Mr. Chopko accepted this honor on behalf of himself and his wife, who was not able to be present for the evening. Mr. Chopko chairs the law firm of Stradley Ronon's nonprofit & religious organizations practice group. Mark joined the firm in 2007, after serving for more than 20 years as General Counsel of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).
The title of  Legacy Patron  is bestowed by resolution of the Board of Directors upon individuals or couples who have generously supported the work of the Bethlehem University Foundation by creating an enduring legacy through scholarships, endowments, building projects, or other means of support. Dr. George L. Zarur was invested as a Legacy Patron, in recognition of several scholarships he has established for Bethlehem University students and contributions to the future John Cardinal Foley Building that will house the Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences at Bethlehem University.
On behalf of the Natalia Jacir de Siman Family, Mr. Jose Eduardo Siman and Mr. Teofilo Siman Jacir were invested as Legacy Patrons of the Bethlehem University Foundation. The Family was recognized for its generosity in establishing two endowed scholarships at the Foundation. Mr. Jose Eduardo Siman is shown with Ms. Lucrecia Siman, who accepted the Patron's medal on behalf of her grandfather, Mr. Teofilo Siman Jacir.
