BETTER HEALTH PARTNERSHIP WEEKLY BRIEFING

Dear Friends,

As we begin our new year in 2022, we find ourselves entering year three of the COVID-19 pandemic and ask ourselves – will we return to some type of normal again?

As Dr. Brook Watts from the MetroHealth System shared in her Cleveland 19 news story – the answer is yes – "pandemics always end".

She adds – "the question is when"? Until then – we share in this briefing the many ways our partners continue fighting the fight against COVID, despite exhaustion, giving us hope for healthier days ahead. Thank you to all who never give up!

Warm regards,

COVID-19 UPDATE

Keeping Up the Fight Against COVID-19
Greater Cleveland RTA and Care Alliance Health Center, led by Dr. Claude Jones (pictured above, second from left), partnered to increase access to COVID-19 vaccines and testing throughout the county using the Community Immunity Bus to expand access to areas with low vaccination rates and disproportionately higher cases of COVID.

Better Health Partnership continues to assist our FQHC partners and others in the fight against COVID-19 – despite the challenges of pushing through barriers to vaccination access and health care workforce shortages. Meeting people where they are in the community is a key strategy to increase vaccine uptake.

Our partners at ASIA Services in Action feel the best way to celebrate the Lunar New Year holiday is with community and good health. ASIA is partnering with RTA to bring the Community Immunity bus to Asia Plaza on E. 30th Street on February 5th, where COVID-19 vaccines will be offered to anyone who comes by and would like to be vaccinated or boostered. Cleveland Clinic Partners with City to Address Lead Levels
The Lead Safe Cleveland Coalition will receive $67 million from Cleveland Clinic and the city of Cleveland – a major contribution for the public-private partnership that united under one common goal: ensuring no child is lead poisoned. Cleveland City Council in 2019 passed the Lead Safe Certification law, which requires all residential rental units constructed before 1978 be proactively certified as lead safe by no later than March 1, 2023.

Better Health Partnership is proud to assist the Coalition by working with primary care providers across health systems and federally qualified community health centers to improve lead testing rates in children and connect those with elevated blood levels to timely intervention.
