September is National Preparedness Month

Dear HALTER Project Community:

As we compose this edition of our NewsNotes, it’s midway thru National Preparedness Month.

September brings with it the stirrings of seasonal change, but also fire and hurricane season for us in the US. It is also a time for remembrance of the firefighters, search teams and many others who have given so much.

We can think of no better way to honor them than by doing what we can to be ready and to help others. Preparedness is empowering.

Preparedness is hopeful. Preparedness is healing.

Working together, we CAN help keep all animals safer during and after natural disasters, and have homes and communities to return to. We will also be better prepared for the "everyday" emergencies that can simply be part of life.

We’re filled with gratitude for each and every one of you who share our commitment. You are all messengers, helping your community, transferring knowledge, and building a safety network for our animals.

Ready.gov - Prepare Your Pets for Disaster

September is National Preparedness Month, the annual campaign to remind everyone that preparing for emergencies and disasters can keep them, their families, pets and animals, and their communities safe.

The resources and information shared during National Preparedness Month and on Ready.gov can be used by anyone at any time to get prepared for whatever may come their way. Prepare Your Pets for Disasters aims to ensure all of our friends, neighbors, and their pets, have the tools they need to prepare for disasters before disaster strikes.

Ready! PET! Go!

Want Animal Evac Prep posters for your community center, library, clubhouse, or… laundry room?

We’ve got a poster for your pets and a poster for your barn.

Our Fire Weather-Ready Barn poster and handout have been a big hit here in our area. At a recent community event, attendees representing a variety of towns, mobile home parks, high-rise apartments, and other types of communities and businesses asked if we could help them make a similar poster for Pet Evacuation Prep.

Get them here...

Our Pet Evac Prep Checklist poster, and Wildfire-Ready Barn Routine poster and handout are available for downloading. We suggest having a local shop print and laminate the posters so they will hold up in any space.

Download PET EVAC PREP CHECKLIST poster 11"x17"

Download WILDFIRE-READY BARN ROUTINE poster 11'X17"

Download WILDFIRE-READY BARN ROUTINE handout 8.5"x11"

The posters are good “cheat sheets” with reminders for the critical actions you need to take when weather forecasts alert you to potential wildfire, flood or severe storm.

They’re free and easy to download and print.

You can make any space in your apartment complex, neighborhood, barn or other gathering place an Animal Prep Hub!

It's as easy as 1, 2, 3!

1. Download and print our Animal Prep Hub poster and workbook. (Links below)

2. Slip the workbook pages into sheet protectors and put them in a binder as a reference and sample.

3. Place a poster and binder in a location visited frequently by residents, staff, workers, volunteers, or boarders.

Our Animal Emergency Plan Workbooks provide all the tools, tips and detailed “Need to Know” info to create a solid emergency plan for your pets (and you). They’re free, easy to download and print.

We have Pet Prep Workbooks for everyone, including seniors and Spanish readers.

The Animal Disaster Action Planner is perfect for folks who have pets plus equines, chickens, small ruminants or other critters in their “back yard” or small farm.

Our Barn & Ranch Safety Planner is for anyone who has a larger property, boards equines, or lives in an equestrian community.

You can also download workbooks for Seniors, Spanish readers, and for Travelers, Pet Sitters and Hotel/AirBnB owner-managers.

Together, we can help more animals and their people be ready to take action and stay safer, and together, during and after natural disasters.
