Community Radio station WERU (and others like it across the USA) have lost ALL their federal CPB funding this year and for the foreseeable future. EarSay, a community arts organization has also lost its NEA and other potential federal funding. If you're in Maine in August, help preserve arts and information and have a fabulous evening.

Sloan and Said will perform an excerpt from their new work exploring how their Jewish and Palestinian American backgrounds shaped their identities and friendship. Lethem and Lehrer each read from new and forthcoming books. Playing multiple instruments, Teirstein performs folk tunes and songs of freedom.

LETTER BOX: The Geometry of Loss

BOOK LAUNCH EVENT CENTER FOR BOOK ARTS, NYC

with Warren Lehrer and Rick Black

Advance Copies Available CLICK HERE

Letter Box: The Geometry of Loss is a deeply moving and beautiful book that addresses how a person can deal with personal loss, feel the bottomless pain, yet manage to move on. Written by former New York Times reporter Rick Black, it is the story of a young man’s coming to grips with the unexpected death of his mother from cancer and other traumatic memories from his years as a reporter in the Middle East. The sparse poetic prose—which consists of only a few words per page—is choreographed for the page by visual literature pioneer Warren Lehrer. His typographic settings give delicate and surprising form to the interior, emotional and metaphorical underpinnings of Black’s words. Together, the writing and visuals create an impactful, beautiful, and distinctively cinematic book experience. Letter Box: The Geometry of Loss is a vehicle for readers of all ages to process their own emotions through a visual and literary odyssey. Health & Wellness/Memoir/Art/Design.

Performances will be followed with an opportunity for audience members to practice the art of listening to one another.
