2024 Cooperative Youth Day

In October, students from across our cooperative communities traveled to Columbus for the 2024 Cooperative Youth Day. Sponsored by Lorain-Medina Rural Electric, North Central Electric, and Firelands Electric, the day offered over 50 high school students, co-op staff, board members, and teachers a behind-the-scenes look at Ohio’s government and history.

The students started the day meeting with state leaders, including senators Reineke and Gavarone, representatives Stein, McClain, Click, and staffers for Representative Miller. They discussed the unique challenges and needs of rural communities and shared insights on how state policies impact rural areas. Our group was eager to engage, asking thoughtful questions like “What motivated you to pursue a career in politics?” and “How long does it take to pass a bill?” These interactions shed light on the legislative process and how decisions are made to support our local communities.

Students also explored the historic Ohio Statehouse, touring the House and Senate chambers, learning about the intricacies of legislation, and gaining a unique perspective on the political process.

This firsthand experience marked a significant step toward understanding their future roles as voters and citizens for many of these young adults. We’re grateful to the dedicated representatives, senators, and Statehouse staff who made this day possible, and we can’t wait for next year’s event.

LMRE Member Advisory Committee meets for bi-annual meeting

This month, LMRE’s Member Advisory Committee met for its bi-annual meeting, covering important topics such as progress at the new headquarters, local economic development, legislative updates, and lineworker safety. These discussions help keep our cooperative responsive, informed, and connected to our members' needs and priorities.

The Member Advisory Committee is an essential bridge between LMRE and the members we serve. By understanding more about how the co-op operates, committee members help educate others about who we are and what we do. Whether it’s explaining co-op processes, advocating for legislative support, or sharing important updates, the committee plays a crucial role in keeping members informed and engaged.

A special thanks to members from districts 2, 5, and 8 who recently completed their terms on the committee. Their contributions have enriched the cooperative, offering valuable feedback and insights that make us stronger and more connected as a community. Their teamwork and dedication demonstrate the power of collaboration across the co-op.

The ongoing work of the Member Advisory Committee ensures that LMRE stays forward-thinking, adaptable, and engaged across our community. Through their involvement, we’re able to grow together, build a more informed membership, and stay focused on a brighter future for everyone.

Mini-split systems

Mini-split systems, also known as ductless air-source heat pumps, can be viable options when replacing or upgrading your HVAC system. A mini-split system heats and cools a home through an outdoor unit connecting to one or more indoor air handlers.

Curious if a mini-split is right for you? Call our energy advisors at 440-647-2133 for more information, including available rebates offered through LMRE!

September outage report

LMRE experienced 34 outages in September, the majority caused by animals and birds.

A number of factors can affect how long your power is out during an outage, including extent of the damage, number of people out, and the spread of outages across our system.

The outage map on LMRE's website is a great resource for information on current power outages, including the number of members affected and the areas experiencing the highest power loss.
