Ruby Johnston, a junior at Black River High School, was selected as this year’s Youth Leadership Council (YLC) delegate during the Youth Tour to Washington D.C., trip this past June to represent all of the Ohio students who attended the trip. The Ohio YLC is voted on during the trip by his/her peers after running a campaign during the first part of the week-long trip to D.C., and delivering a short, five-minute speech about why they should be selected to represent the state on a national stage at NRECA’s annual PowerXchange conference in 2026.
This year, Ruby, who was one of the representatives sent on Youth Tour by LMRE, was selected as the YLC. As part of this selection, she has to provide a community service to her co-op communities back home with the co-op., which is how the idea of a community e-recycling event with PCs for People was born.
Ruby, and PCs for People, successfully hosted an electronics recycling drive at the LMRE office last week. Members of the community were invited to drop off their old electronics to be recycled for a good cause. This project was a part of Ruby's community service project she completes while on the Youth Leadership Council.
Thank you to everyone that donated and helped make it a successful event!
