Neighborhood News

This year is our 5th year putting out flags around our neighborhood in honor of Independence Day!! We have put out around 950 flags. I just love the way the flags look while driving down the street. It is just one way we show how truly grateful we are to live in this free country and those who serve our country.
Life Hack of the Month

With the 4th of July right around the corner and two+ more months of warm weather, I imagine you, like me, will be hosting people in your backyard. And if you, like me, are in desperate need of brightening those rusted pieces of outdoor furniture that haven't really been used since last summer, then check out this patio furniture brightening hack!

  • Fill a spray bottle with white vinegar
  • Spritz the vinegar over chairs and tables to remove mildew stains and prevent mold from forming

Home Improvements

Home renovations can be a worthwhile endeavor, but they can definitely add up and may not be worth it. I am always discussing with friends and family the pros and cons of different renovations. Everyone always wants to make sure they can get their money back. Check out these 7 home renovations that you will be sure to get your money back from!

  1. Replace or repaint your front door!
  2. Give your house a fresh coat of paint.
  3. Replace appliances with low-energy, low-water options. Think tank-less water heaters and front loading washing machines.
  4. Change just your kitchen cabinet doors, counter tops and/or flooring.
  5. Swap out sinks, update hardware, and re-grout in the bathroom.
  6. Replace windows in the family or living room with french doors.
  7. Upgrade the outdoor space while the weather permits.

for 8 servings
  • 3 cups green cabbage, shredded
  • ½ cup red onion, diced
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 4 tilapia fillets
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper, ground
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon cumin
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • 16 corn tortillas
  • cilantro, to taste
  • lime, to taste

  1. In a large bowl, combine green cabbage, red onion, sour cream, lime juice, and salt. Chill until ready to serve.
  2. In a bowl, mix cayenne, garlic powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Season each tilapia fillet on both sides with the seasoning mix.
  3. Over medium-high heat, cook 2 fillets at a time for 8 minutes, flipping halfway. Repeat for the remaining fillets.
  4. Using a fork, break apart the fillets into bite-size pieces.
  5. Right before serving, heat the corn tortillas in the pan over high heat. Remove from the pan and assemble the tacos with the cabbage slaw and tilapia.
  6. Garnish with cilantro and lime juice.
  7. Enjoy!
