Sexual Misconduct Boundary Training

There will be an in-person Sexual Misconduct Boundary Training. Rev. Fran Lane-Lawrence, the Synod Stated Clerk as well as Stated Clerk and Presbytery Leader for Lake Michigan Presbytery, will lead the training. There will be a choice of two different training sessions – you do not need to attend both sessions.

Date: September 30 10 AM to 2 PM

Location: Bay City-First

Date: October 1 10 AM to 2 PM

Location: Mt. Pleasant-First

Lunch will be provided at each session.

Please sign up for either session on the Presbytery website at the link below so that we might plan materials and lunch appropriately.

This training is useful for church staff and/or elders as well as pastoral leaders. A reminder to clergy that Sexual Misconduct Boundary training is required every three years. If due for this training, you will receive a notice.

Session Minutes Review

The annual records review will take place on the following dates this fall. You are welcome to attend any one which works for you. The review can include minutes and records through August of 2025.

Monday, October 13th at the Presbytery Office

Registration is required; will be individual meetings with the Stated Clerk.

Saturday, October 18th at 9:00am at Flushing

Registration is not required. Event will start at 9am and will be done as a group.

Monday, October 27th at the Presbytery Office Registration is required; will be individual meetings with the Stated Clerk.

Saturday, November 1st at 9:00am at a Thumb area church TBD. Location will be posted no later than September 16th.

October 13th and 27th events only: If you plan to have your books read at the Presbytery Office on October 13^th or October 27th you MUST pre-register. These are being done in 20-minute blocks of individual time with the Stated Clerk.

Are you exhausted? Exhausted from (gestures wildly) everything? Then we have a wonderful opportunity for renewal and learning! Join us in Grand Rapids this fall at the NEXT Church National Gathering.

Council has approved a $200 grant for the first 20 people from the presbytery who would like to attend NEXT Church! This is for the full registration fee option only and you MUST use a code at registration. Email Staci Percy at spercy@presbylh.org to obtain the code PRIOR to registering. This code is for anyone from the presbytery who would like to attend: Clergy, CREs, Ruling Elders, congregational leaders, etc.

We are excited to announce a NEXT Church National Gathering taking place in Grand Rapids, Michigan from November 11-14, 2025. We will gather at Westminster Presbyterian Church, thanks to the generosity and hospitality of their congregation and staff. During the gathering, leaders from all across the Church will learn alongside those asking similar questions, naming the very real/pressing challenges, and hoping to uncover strategies to bring about wholeness as we do the work ahead. Our time together will create the space to cultivate individual and communal transformation.

There are five different Pathways to chose when registering. Please review these and be sure to select which one when you are registering.

There is one hotel nearby where special rates are available for the event. You will need to make your reservation through the conference website to get the reduced rate. Please reserve a room as soon as possible as space is limited. (There are other hotels in Grand Rapids but only one with the conference rates.)

Little Free Food Pantry – Grand Blanc, MI

Inspiration and Calling

The Little Free Food Pantry at Grand Blanc-Kirkridge has become much more than a wooden box filled with canned goods and easy prep meals. It has become a living expression of Jesus’ teaching to feed the hungry and care for those in need. For our youth group, this project has been a powerful reminder that faith is not only something to be learned but something to be lived.

What inspired them most was the immediacy of the action. They could do something, right now, that followed in the footsteps of Jesus. Stocking shelves, carrying groceries, or spreading the word were not abstract exercises – they were tangible ways to respond to Christ’s call to love our neighbors.

How It Has Been Going

The pantry has been embraced by our congregation and the wider community. From its simple beginning in front of our church at 8070 S. Saginaw, Grand Blanc, it has grown into a steady and reliable source of help.

• The majority of our original grant funds have now been used, primarily to establish and expand the pantry.
• Thanks to the grant and generous donations, hundreds of dollars worth of food has already been distributed, and continues to be so every year, with additional untracked contributions flowing in from the community.
• The “Take what you need, leave what you can” principle has fostered generosity and dignity on both sides of the pantry door.
• Consistent donations from church members, neighbors, and even people outside our congregation now allow the pantry to thrive in a way that will continue for years beyond the grant itself.

The project has grown beyond even the youth group’s capacity, as adults in the congregation now step in during the week to restock the pantry. We are also preparing to double the pantry’s size and exploring ways to offer perishable goods in the future.

Fish Fry Is Back!

Saginaw-Second are holding their semi-annual Fish Fry on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. The fish dinner includes all-you-care-to-eat fried Alaskan pollock, potatoes, coleslaw, bread, beverage, and dessert.

The fish fries, held one Friday during Lent and one in October are the church’s largest fundraisers and help fund various church projects such as; landscaping, many maintenance projects of the church building and grounds, sponsorship of Boy Scout Troop 321, and various other projects. This alleviates pressure from the budget and allows for more local, national, and international mission giving. These fish fries have been a tradition since the 1950s!

The cost of the all-you-care-to-eat, dine-in experience is $15.00, children 5-12 are $7.00, children younger than 5 years old are free. Take out is $15.00.

Dear Friends in Christ,

Warm greetings from Sacramento, California – our family’s new home and community.

These sweet 16 years: 6 years with Midland-Memorial and 10 years with Presbyterian World Mission, are coming to a close, for me as a minister member of the Presbytery of Lake Huron. Our family remains grateful to each one of you, many churches, Presbyterian Women circles and gatherings, for shared ministry in congregation and communities, with friendship and fellowship. 

A new chapter begins, since I recently joined as a minister member of the North Central California Presbytery. Still we can stay connected, if you are interested in any or all of the following in Asia and the Pacific: 1) organizations that are working directly with anti-human trafficking or migration, 2) partner churches, theological schools, medical institutions or other organizations, 3) any other creative opportunities in this emerging model of Global Ecumenical Partnerships.

The Cultivating the Gift of Preaching Initiative (CGPI) is currently focused on recruiting mentors to lead cohort groups of emerging “lay” preachers from across the Synod of the Covenant. Serving as a CGPI mentor is an 18-month commitment that begins, this program year, in June 2026 and concludes in November 2027. Mentors should expect to give 15-20 hours per month for preparation and meeting with their mentees. During this time, they will meet online monthly with their cohort group of 6-8 to emerging preachers, attend the annual preaching conference in Alma Conference each June (in 2026 the conference is June 3-8), and meet with your cohort groups in person twice (tentatively in January and November of 2027).

Mentors are paid $12,000 over six quarterly payments. In addition, all travel, lodging, and food expenses are reimbursed, and mentors are provided the assigned books and other resources.
