Friends,
In her book Sailboat Church, Joan Gray speaks of the need for our churches to stop wearing ourselves out rowing, and to start sailing. When you are rowing, you are always looking at what is behind you. When you sail, you look ahead. Your Presbytery Council would like the Presbytery of Lake Huron to stop wearing ourselves out rowing, and to start sailing.
In order to do this, we need to look at the identity of our Presbytery, our mission, and our vision for what could be if we work together with the Holy Spirit filling our sails.
At the June meeting of Lake Huron Presbytery, it was announced that we would begin a series of listening sessions regarding the future direction, vision and staffing needs of the Presbytery. We began with table discussions at that meeting. For your Council to make informed decisions and plans regarding the future vision, direction, and staffing of the Presbytery, Presbytery Council needs to hear from you and your church.
The next opportunity to participate will be via zoom (see registration information bellow) with in-person meetings to be announced. If you were part of the table discussions during the Presbytery meeting, rather than joining these sessions, please encourage others to participate so that we can hear from as many people as possible.
In the words of the prophet Joel, “Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old [men] shall dream dreams, and your young [men] shall see visions.” – Joel 2:28
It is time for us to be open to visions of what could be, and dreams that can guide us into the future together as a Presbytery.
Yours in Christ,
Moderator, Presbytery of Lake Huron

Welcome To Our Newest Clergy Member
|
|
|
|
We are exited to announce that we have another new clergy member of the presbytery! We were introduced to her at the June presbytery meeting but wanted to share with everyone a little bit about Kate.
Rev. Kate Morritauk is delighted to have been called to serve as the pastor at Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Flint. A product of the North Carolina piedmont, but with schooling roots at the University of South Carolina, and at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia, Kate’s first ministerial calls led her to Torrington, Wyoming, and Salisbury, North Carolina. She is currently getting settled in at TUPC and the Flint area with her spouse, Coulter.
Kate enjoys the simple things in life, like a good cup of tea, a strong female protagonist, and an afternoon at home with her kitten, Rocky. However, Kate also finds deep meaning in her friendships and in her work, which has led her to a life of commitment to the church. In a few words, Kate is contagiously joyful, fiercely loyal, a dreamer and an activist, and a grateful Presbyterian. You can find her on Facebook and Instagram at @revkatemorritauk.

Pastors and CREs of Lake Huron Presbytery:
You are invited to a special retreat just for you!
We know you have done great work in the past two and a half years, without a lot of support because of COVID. We would like to rectify this by offering a pastor's retreat September 13-15 at the St. Francis Retreat Center in Dewitt, MI. We would love to spend some time engaging, interacting, and getting time to know each other as well as hearing from our keynote speaker, Rev. Brant Piper about family systems. Even if you are an expert, this is a subject on which re-hearing brings new ideas to mind. We know your schedules are busy, but this will be a time to refresh and receive, that you may return to your churches ready to face the new opportunities that present themselves.
This opportunity is a bargain at just $80 with everything included, even single rooms!. The Commission on Ministry and Ministry Preparation is picking up the rest of the cost of the event.
We are hoping for a great time, so bring your guitars, your crafts, your favorite adult beverage to share, and expect some much needed down time. The grounds of the St. Francis Retreat Center include walking/running paths, disc golf course and gardens.

With our Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ and 1904 Steinway piano as well as hearts embracing hospitality, sharing music with the community is a vital mission of First Presbyterian Church. The Friends of Music outreach responds to a regional need for high-quality musical opportunities, drawing unique audiences to downtown Caro. Events occur beyond the congregation’s operating budget due to private and corporate patronage.
Nicholas Schmelter, Director of Worship and Congregational Life, is pleased to receive questions about the Friends of Music series by phone (989.673.6630) or e-mail ([email protected]

Resource Center Re-Sizing
|
|
|
|
Recently, the Presbytery Council approved re-sizing our Presbytery Resource Center. In part, it is to provide space for the Michigan Nanum Church for their resources and materials as they make greater use of that room. The reality is that our Resource Center is almost never used and many of the materials are out of date.
To that end, the Resource Center will be relocated to the bookcases on the Presbytery office side of the building by the entrance. In order to reduce the number of resources that will be kept in that smaller space, we will do the following:
If there are any resources that you or your church wish to have, please stop by the Presbytery Office during normal business hours (currently Monday-Thursday 9:00am-4:30pm). This will be on a “first come, first serve” basis. Please bring boxes with you. We will do this from now to the end of September.
At the end of September, we will review the remaining resources and transfer some to the bookcases by the Presbytery entrance. Any resources left after that will not be kept.
We are pleased that the space of the original Resource Center is needed and can be used fully. If you have any questions, please contact the Presbytery Office.
