Office of the President

March 3, 2025

Dear William Paterson Faculty and Staff,

With the arrival of March, I know many of us are thinking ahead to the end of the semester and beyond. To help with your vacation and other advance planning, I want to let you know that we will once again operate on a four-day work week for the summer, with the University open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:15 p.m., Monday through Thursday and closed Friday. This schedule will begin Monday, May 19, the week of Commencement, and end the week of August 11, with a return to a normal, 5-day work week on Monday, August 18. As always, individual and departmental remote and vacation schedules for this period will be worked out with managers based on institutional need. Everyone should plan to be on campus on Wednesdays, when our fully on-site Summer Professional Development Series will take place. Watch your inbox for more details on the summer schedule and the Professional Development Series from Human Resources.

Please join us this week to socialize with colleagues over light refreshments at First Thursday, upstairs at Hobart Manor on March 6, from 4:00-5:30 p.m.

Congratulations to the William Paterson women’s basketball team, which had a strong New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament performance, beating New Jersey City University, 55-54, in a thrilling quarterfinal game before ending their tournament run in the semifinals. WP currently sports a 19-8 overall record, and the Pioneers have registered the program’s best victory total since the 2012-13 team finished with a 21-8 mark. William Paterson hopes to be included when the ECAC Women’s Basketball Tournament bracket is released this evening. Good luck, Pioneers!

This week’s WPWe are Proud – Congratulations to WP’s own Hip Hop Orchestra Professor Igmar Thomas, who recently played with his Revive Big Band as part of National Public Radio’s popular Tiny Desk Concert series. As NPR says, “This is not your grandparents' — or even your great-grandparents' — big band sound. Yes, it feels familiar, but the driving grooves are undeniably hip-hop.”

Have a great start to your March. Spring is just around the corner!

Sincerely,

Richard J. Helldobler, Ph.D.
