Office of the President

June 16, 2025

Dear William Paterson Faculty and Staff,

I hope everyone has been enjoying their summer, so far. A reminder that, while the University is closed this Friday as part of our summer schedule, the State will observe the Juneteenth holiday on Friday, June 20, so we will revert to our normal, 8:30 a.m.to 4:30 p.m. workday today through Thursday this week.

Looking to enrollment, as of Friday, we have 7,158 enrolled students, representing an 11.11% increase over last year. Main Campus enrollment is trending 7.89% ahead of last year. Undergraduate Main Campus continuing student enrollment stands at 2,894 which is one-tenth of one percent behind this time last year. Please be sure to work with continuing students, wherever you can, to assist with registration for the fall.

For new students, first-time full-time (FTFT) domestic student applications are up 4.77%, year over year at 9,134. We are 93% of the way to the number of applications forecasted to yield the Fall class. Acceptances have increased by 4.30%, and deposits are up 2.03%. Domestic transfer enrollment is up 6.48% over last year, and graduate enrollments are also up more than 11%, year over year. Overall, new domestic student applications for Fall 2025 have increased by 5.94%, with acceptances up 4.35%. New domestic student enrollment is up 19.21%.

International student metrics are also showing positive trends, with 2,493 international FTFT applications and a 71.21% increase in international FTFT deposits, at 113. While international enrollment indicators remain strong, we are closely monitoring the potential impact that visa revocations, visa appointment availability, and visa processing delays may have on our ability to convert these applicants into enrolled students for Fall 2025.

I am looking forward to seeing staff at the kick-off event for the Summer Learning & Development Program on Wednesday, June 25, in the University Center Ballrooms. The event, centered on this year’s theme of “U (You) Lead – Everyday Leadership at WP”, will begin with a 7:30 a.m. breakfast. The program starts at 8:15 a.m. Please watch your email this week for further details and a link to register from HR.

Finally, I wanted to share with you a recent podcast interview in which I discuss some of the many great things happening at William Paterson, among other related topics. Last month, I was a guest on the “Leaders on Leadership” podcast, where I spoke with Jay Lemons, President of Academic Search, who previously served as President of Susquehanna University. Please click here to listen.

Have a great week!

Sincerely,

Richard J. Helldobler, Ph.D.
