Dear Prayer Partner

Later this month our friends at the American Bible Society will be celebrating Thanksgiving. It is a time to reflect on the year gone by and the blessings we have received from our Heavenly Father.

We encourage you to take some time this month and thank God for all He has provided you with.
This month in Prayer News we are looking at how we can pray for Malawi, Palestine and Gautemala.

Thank you for joining us in prayer.

Family Scripture Engagement Packs in Malawi

The Bible Society of Malawi is distributing family Scripture engagement packs throughout the country to help families come together to study God’s Word.

After reports from churches that many of their congregations were not interacting with the Bible as a family, it became apparent that there was a need for families as a whole to be studying the Bible together. Not only does this help individual believers read the Bible, but it helps children brought up in these families to grown in their faith and learn to read the Bible every day.

The Bible Society has partnered with Scripture Union in Malawi to develop the pack. Within a Scripture pack there is a Bible, a Children’s Bible and a Scripture Union Bible Reading Guide.

One of those who has received a Scripture pack is Mrs Dornad Mhlanga, pictured, who lives in the Mzuzu area. Mrs Mhlanga had heard that when a person reads the Bible, they get peace from God’s Message and is now excited to learn more about the impact the Bible can have on her life. She is also looking forward to studying the Bible with her family and helping her children to grow in their own Christian faiths.

Pray for the families who receive Scripture engagement packs:

  • Pray for Mrs Mhlanga and her family as she begins to use the family Scripture engagement pack. Pray for parents as they seek to bring their children up in the Christian faith.
  • Pray that God would open the hearts of children and that they would come to know Him at a young age.

  • Pray that the financial support would be made available to supply these Scripture engagement packs to as many people as possible.

  • Pray that more families would be studying Scripture together as a family in our own country. Pray for Christian parents as they seek to raise their children in the Christian faith.
The "Child of Bethlehem" Project in Palestine

The “Child of Bethlemhem” project in Palestine is a programme of events for children and young people to come and hear more about the Gospel. This scheme runs Bible-based trips, conferences, camps and school events. They are especially active at Easter, during the summer and at Christmas.

53% of the Palestinian Population is under the age of 18, which means that this project has a huge audience to share God’s Word with.

It aims to build the faith and knowledge of children and youth in Scriptures as well as in the person of Jesus Christ. The Program has been running for over 17 years of ministry and has reached thousands of young people. During the last few years over 50,000 Bibles, tracts and booklets have been distributed, while around 50 summer camps were run with more than 40,000 children attending.

The run up to Christmas is one of their busiest times. The Palestinian Bible Society will be running Bible-based dramas and distributing Scripture to children and young people around the country.
Please pray for the children of Palestine:

  • Pray for the Palestinian children & youth that they will be uplifted and touched by the Word of God through the program.

  • Pray for the team of leaders and volunteers guiding this project. Ask that God would strengthen and protect them.

  • Pray that the Bible would produce lasting fruit in the lives of Palestinian children and youth. Pray for the spread of hope and peace in place of hatred and fear.
The Newly Completed Translation of the Bible into Achí of Cubulco in Guatemala

This year we have been supporting the “Free to Live” project that supports girls who have been trafficked in Guatemala. This month we wanted to share one of the other projects that has recently come to completion in this country. Over the last month Guatemala has been celebrating the completion of the translation of the Bible into Achí of Cubulco. Achí of Cubulco is the 10th of 54 indigenous language in Guatemala to have the full Bible translated. It was truly a time of celebrating.

"This is my first Scripture," beamed Trinidad López, pictured, as she held a copy of the first Bible in her language at the launch. "I have never owned my own Bible until today! Now, I have the full Bible in Achí of Cubulco!"

Trinidad was among more than 1,000 excited Achí of Cubulco speakers who gathered in a sports centre in the mountain-fringed town of Cubulco to welcome the first full Bible in their language. Hundreds had taken part in an early-morning parade around the town (pictured in at the top of this email) to announce the arrival of the Bible, driving specially decorated cars, or carrying colourful banners and singing

Prayer points for this new translation:

  • Thank God that this translation has been completed and that another people group now has access to the Bible in their own language.

  • Pray that it would be a blessing to the church and that more people would be draw to Christ because of this translation.

  • Pray that each person that heard, listened or took some Scripture would be challenged by it and that they would be drawn to the message of the Bible.

  • Praise God for the 200 millionth Chinese Bible that was printed this month. The need for Bibles is great in China and the China Partnership (Chinese Bible Society) is working hard to meet the need.

  • Pray for the ongoing conflict in Syria. Pray for safety as Christians seek to share God's Word in this war-torn country.

  • Pray for the people affected by the flooding in the Central African Republic. More than 28,000 people have been displaced and the Bible Society in the Central African Republic is working to supply basic necessities, Scriptures and trauma healing to families who have lost everything.

Pray for the team

  • Thank God for our supporters evening on Friday 8th of November. It was a wonderful night and we were so blessed to meet some of our supporters.
