Our founding fathers understood biblical truth and used biblical principles in how they formed our nation. Those truths are reflected in our Declaration of Independence and United States Constitution. Colonial American pastors, known as “the Black Robe Regiment”, led their congregations during the American Revolution to join in the battle to fight for their God given freedom and liberty.
“The church must take ground in regard to politics. Politics are part of a religion in a country as this, and Christians must do their duty to their country as a part of their duty to God. God will bless or curse this nation according to the course Christians take in politics”. – Charles Finney
As deadly battle rages in Ukraine perpetrated by Russia, we face a spiritual battle in America between those of us who believe in biblical truth and those who worship the false god of secular humanism. Let’s look at just 3 examples of biblical truth vs secular humanism.
- We believe that life begins at conception and that all life is sacred. They believe in abortion at any term of the pregnancy, including at the time of birth.
- We believe God created us in His image, both male and female. They believe gender is not assigned at birth but rather on a spectrum.
- We believe that parents have a God given responsibility to pick the best possible education for our children whether district, charter, private, virtual or home school. They believe that the government should control what schools children attend and the curricular taught, regardless of biblical morality.
Let’s take it from the top:
The Supreme Court of the United States is poised to rule on abortion cases this summer. At state legislatures and in the halls of Congress, legislative battles continue over the life or death of the unborn. In the Arizona Legislature, those who believe in biblical truths are trying to pass SB 1164 that will limit abortion to 15 weeks gestation. This is a small step in promoting the sanctity of life, yet is receiving strong party line opposition.
We can agree that God commands us to love one another regardless of someone’s sexual preference or perceived gender. A glaring example of how biblical truth is being ignored is how biological men are being allowed to not only compete in woman’s sports, but demand access to women’s rest rooms, locker rooms and shower facilities. SB 1165, a bill that bands biological men from competing in woman’s sports, is still pending in the Arizona Legislature, again on party line vote.
Arizona has been a leader in school choice. Tuition tax credit goes to Student Tuition Organizations (STO’s) who award scholarships to parents to send their children to private schools. Empowerment Scholarship Accounts (ESA’s) that that have narrow eligibility, allow parents to pay for educational material including tuition. SB 1657 expands the eligibility of ESA’s and improves STO scholarships. It has passed the Arizona Senate, is now waiting to be heard in the House of Representative.
Many public schools are teaching Planned Parenthood style Comprehensive Sexuality Curriculum that teaches fluid gender ideology and subject matter that sexualizes children at an early age. Some schools also include Marxist critical race and equity theory in the curriculum of many subjects. If SB 1211 passes the Arizona Legislature, parents will have transparency to see online what children are taught. Parents’ knowing the truth of what is being taught in schools is important when choosing the right school for their children.
When Christians vote our values, we elect representatives who believe in biblical truths. By knowing the truth, they govern with God’s world view.
Here’s a short video, narrated by Ronald Reagan that explains the importance of God’s truths guiding government.
