All of us at the D. Samuel Gottesman Library would like to extend a warm welcome to all new students who have just joined us here at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. We are looking forward to meeting you at the Campus Community Fair on Thursday! We are also excited to see our returning students back on campus. As you begin the new academic year, I want to remind you that the staff of the D. Samuel Gottesman Library is here to support you throughout your academic journey.
Here are some quick tips to get you oriented:
| |
- The library is located on the first floor of the Forchheimer Building and is open 24/7. Remember that an Einstein ID card swipe is required for entry at all times.
- The Beren Study Center is open 24/7.
-
Check our calendar for updates on service hours and classes.
-
We have nine group study rooms. Five rooms can seat up to six people. The other four rooms are designed for 1 or 2 people. All rooms are equipped with interactive boards and conferencing capability. You can reserve a room for up to two hours a day.
-
Multi-function printers and user-friendly scanners are available in the library and the Beren Study Center. If you print lengthy documents, take advantage of our comb binding service.
-
For easy access to our collection of over 100,000 e-journals, e-books, videos, and databases, always start at the library's website. For remote access, students should sign in with their active directory (AD) user names.
-
Librarians can be reached by email, phone, chat or by visiting the service desk.
I hope you will take advantage of our resources and services. I wish you a successful and productive year!

Scite.ai: Saving and Analyzing Search Results with Dashboards
|
In previous newsletters, we’ve highlighted a variety of the capabilities of Scite.ai, an AI-powered research platform that analyzes and provides citation context for scientific papers, which the library subscribed to earlier this year.
This month’s deep dive features the use of dashboards to produce custom reference lists and perform analyses of the literature. Setting up a dashboard is easy: just run a search in Scite.ai and click the Create Dashboard icon to save up to 50,000 citations.
| | |
You can also create a dashboard from a list of DOIs that you have obtained from a database or another source or that you have in a Zotero or Mendeley library.
Your dashboard not only allows you to save a search and set of articles for future use but also:
-
Receive alerts for new relevant articles,
-
See information on how the articles are being cited,
-
Understand trends in supporting and contrasting citations,
-
Check for editorial notices,
-
Search by article title, and
-
Sort references by year or number of citations in different categories.
| |
In addition, the references in your dashboard can be exported to a .csv file for use in Excel or a .ris file that you can add to your citation manager. Dashboards can also be shared with either edit or view only access. Or you can “chat” with Scite.ai’s Assistant feature about the included references.
In short, a dashboard is a one stop shop to keep up with topics that you have an ongoing interest in and you can create multiple dashboards to cover all the different elements of your research.

ILLiad Upgrade
ILLiad, our interlibrary loan service, has gotten an upgrade! The service, complete with shiny redesigned webpages, relaunched Wednesday, July 9.
All user data and transactions have been migrated, so you will be able to log on to your account and see your history and retrieve any PDFs that were delivered before the migration.
Take a peek at our new article request page! As a shortcut, if you have the article's DOI or PMID, you can use that to look up the citation information. Contact interlibraryloan@einsteinmed.edu with any questions.
| | Changes to Library Resources: Subscription Cancellations | |
Einstein librarians are committed to responsible use of library funds and College resources. We are making strategic decisions about our collection priorities and will be discontinuing access to some subscriptions this year and next. After careful analysis, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the following subscriptions as of June 30, 2025.
BMJ Best Practice
CABI Global Health
-
Content: International public health database
-
Alternative Access: PubMed for public-health related articles and interlibrary loan for CABI-indexed publications not found elsewhere.
Natural Medicines
NetAnatomy
-
Content: Human anatomy images database
-
Alternatives: Access Medicine and ClinicalKey include anatomy component and anatomical images.
These cancellation decisions were not made lightly. Librarians conducted a comprehensive review that included:
-
Usage Analysis: Evaluation of database access statistics over the past three years
-
Cost-Per-Use Assessment: Analysis of subscription costs relative to actual usage patterns
-
Content Overlap Study: Identification of alternative resources that provide similar information
-
Faculty Consultation: Input from department liaisons regarding research and teaching priorities
The Einstein Library remains committed to supporting your research, teaching, and clinical practice needs. Librarians are available to help you navigate these changes and identify the best available resources for your specific requirements.
