Dear Friends,

October is a good reminder of how much it matters to show up.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen our community show up in so many ways. Supporters came together for two golf outings, our team has been out meeting new people and supporting our partners, creating new Big & Little matches, and planning kick offs for our 30+ site-based programs launching this month. Each of these activities helps strengthen our community and bring more people into our mission.

Our 20th Annual Beach Volleyball Tournament was supposed to bring everyone together on the beach this weekend, but weather had other plans. Instead, we’re gathering at Surf Taco for a pop-up event, bringing our community another opportunity to support our work or learn more about us. We’d love for you to join us and enjoy a free taco!

Every one of these efforts matters because, at the heart of our work, showing up is what mentorship is all about.

A Big doesn’t need to have all the answers. Sometimes it’s asking how a school day went, trying something new together, cheering from the sidelines or simply being present. Over time, those moments build trust, confidence and connection.

I’m grateful to everyone who continues to support young people in our communities. Whether you volunteer your time, attend an event, connect someone to our mission or support our work, you are helping create more opportunities for young people to build strong relationships and reach their potential.

With gratitude,

• OUT OF THE OFFICE, INTO THE COMMUNITY •

We've been out in the community sharing our mission and recruiting for our programs! Each community event has been an opportunity to connect with the counties we serve and spread awareness of the impact mentorship has on a young persons life.

Thank you to our partners for making these events possible and helping us build meaningful connections that strengthen our communities.

• NEW MATCH IN HUNTERDON COUNTY •

Every great match starts with a first meeting. Big Brother Jim & Little Brother Spencer are already off to an exciting start!

We held their match meeting at a local park, where they instantly connected, matching each other’s enthusiasm. Spencer showed up with a list of outing ideas then, over ice cream, they planned to go mini golfing and grab lunch on their next outing.

With their first adventure already teed up, we are excited to see where this mentorship journey takes them!

• THE BIG WAIT •

100 people at a concert? Easy. 100 people at a game? No problem.

How about 100 people ready to spend a few hours a month having fun, building a connection and making a difference in a young person's life?

100 youth are waiting for a Big. Let's make a match.

• EVENTS SPOTLIGHT •

The 2nd Annual Pete Mcguigan Memorial Golf Outing was a beautiful day on the course and raised more than $120,000 essential funds to help us continue and expand our reach through one-to-one mentorship. The outing is held in honor our late board member and Big Brother, Pete McGuigan, who's Little Brother Daniel and family, picture above, were able to join us for the reception.

Due to beach debris & unsafe conditions we're unable to hold our 20th Annual Beach Volleyball Tournament this year. We’re disappointed to miss celebrating this milestone, but we’re already looking ahead to next year! And there’s still time to support the tournament’s fundraising efforts that help support our mentorship programs, click below.

Our 6th Annual Big Shots Golf Classic was a picture perfect day on the course, bringing together new and existing supporters and partners to support mentorship. Together our 18 foursomes plus longstanding sponsors helped raise more than $40,000 in funds to support and sustain current and future Big and Little matches. We're grateful to everyone involved in this BIG day for mentorship!

The tournament may be cancelled, but we’d still love to see our volleyball community. Volleyball teams and players can stop by Surf Taco's Wall location this Saturday, October 10th between 11am-1pm to pick up your tournament gift and fundraising incentive prizes.

Not part of our volleyball tournament? No problem! Everyone is welcome to stop by and taco-bout mentorship with us and if you do, your taco is on us.

Help us make the best of a bad beach day situation by learning more about being a volunteer mentor!

As we celebrate 50 years of defending the potential of young people, we're grateful for the organizations that have stepped forward as our 50th Anniversary Founders Circle partners. Their year-round commitment to our organization helps strengthen our mission and expand opportunities for local youth. Learn More 🔗
