Volunteer Maintenance Weekend

Ever wonder about helping out behind the scenes? This is your chance! Come on out and assist in some much needed spring cleaning. We'll have several different work teams from firewood processing to light kitchen work. Hot meals and overnight lodging provided.

Its not too often we find our way up to Lexington, Kentucky but this spring we are very excited to share exhibit space w/ CWEET while celebrating our Appalachian Roots and Heritage.
Building Skills Workshop Series
March 20-22
Join us in this next hands-on class where we'll teach you how to build your very own "Shaving-Horse" aka - wooden foot-powered vise. Follow the link in the above featured article or below to learn about our renowned instructors, skilled craftsmen and chance of a lifetime class where students get to choose to make a legacy piece for Turtle Island or take it home for future projects. This rare class is only open to a small group of 8 adults. All tools, materials, meals and lodging included!
Drinking Vinegar, say what?!
March 21
For the first time ever, we'll be hosting this combination class in our outdoor kitchen, also known as "Nacho Mamma's Cafe." This workshop includes a guided plant walk and wild-food harvesting too! Students will gather wild edibles and then take those collections to our wood-fired kitchen to concoct healing and medicinal beverages to take home! A hot lunch is also included.
Raise the Roof w/ Raleigh Avery
March 28-29
This one is a special invitation offered to hard workers with the specific interest in helping Raleigh finish a roof. There is NO CHARGE and we'll feed everyone. Please send an email to Mail@turtleislandpreserve.com to learn how you can get involved.
Blacksmith's Weekend
April 4-5
Students get hands-on hours at our coal fired forges all while being surrounded by the beautiful campus of Turtle island Preserve. Anvils sing all weekend while participants get coached and guided by our attentive staff. This favorite workshop is nearly full already!
Leather Sheath-Craft Weekend
April 4-5
What good is a custom blade without a sturdy sheath? Due to the great number of blacksmith and knifecraft graduates from years of workshops past, we are offering this weekend in leather work to accompany your fixed-blade knives. Participants will be guided, instructed and lead in this hands-on class.
Families Learning Together
Outdoor Expo April 18
Its the #1 day of the whole year to visit! And all for a great cause. This annual fundraiser is what creates our summer camp scholarship! Its a huge outdoor festival, with countless hands-on experiences, live music, tasty foods and lots to do for ALL ages. This is your chance to spend the day exploring Turtle Island Preserve!
Hide Tanning 3-Day Weekend
May 1-3
The ancient art of tanning deer hides is a favorite class at Turtle Island. This workshop will be led by Luke McLaughlin from Holistic Survival School and the hit series "Naked and Afraid." All hides, tools, materials, meals and overnight lodging are included!
Knife Making Weekend
May 2-3
Forged in Fire Fan Favorite Robby Bowman will guide 8 lucky students in transforming old worn out horseshoes and railroad spikes into beautiful, useful, unique knives.
Spoon Carving Weekend
May 2-3
Familiarize yourself with these tools and skills that you can take anywhere! Carving green wood spoons can be a wonderful way to relax, unwind, enjoy nature and sculpt your own creative designs. Lodging, meals, tools and materials included.
Woods-Woman 101 - Weekend

For years people have been asking us to add a Mother-Daughter Camp to our schedule. There have been countless other requests for classes for and by women. We are finally answering that call by presenting: "Woodswoman 101" on Mother's Day Weekend! Take a walk on the wild side and learn useful outdoor skills from seasoned outdoor gals!
Father/Son Camp 3-Day Weekend

Father's Day Weekend is our annual camp for the fellas to unplug, camp out and ramble in this woods and stream of this beautiful campus - Only a few spots left!

SEEKING MEDIC STAFF

One and two week positions are open for medics from June 19-August 1.

Our camp experience is a wild, fun, outdoor adventure. This position is ideal for mature individuals comfortable in a rustic camping situation with either a Wilderness First Aid Certificate, or Nurses, EMT's & medics. As incidents are rare, kitchen and garden work is available while no medical needs arise. Please send an email for more info: mail@turtleislandpreserve.com
