Big News!

The Los Angeles Angels

Team Up with Social Compassion to Help Shelter Animals in Orange County!

We are absolutely over the moon and wagging our tails with joy to announce that the Major League Baseball team, the Los Angeles Angels, through their Angels Baseball Foundation, have joined paws with our 501(c)(3), Social Compassion, to shine a spotlight on the adorable adoptable animals waiting for their forever homes in Orange County shelters!

This delightful partnership is hitting home runs with an electronic billboard at the Angels' stadium that will be making a whopping 2 million impressions through December—talk about a grand slam for animal adoption!

Our collaboration not only showcases the responsibilities of caring for a furry friend, whether it’s a dog, cat, or even a fluffy rabbit, but it also guides potential adopters directly to the OC animal shelter websites to find their next best buddy!

We couldn't be more thrilled about this teamwork, and we hope this is just the tip of the iceberg! So, keep your eyes peeled and your hearts open for more exciting updates this April when the MLB regular season kicks off—because the love for our four-legged friends is just beginning! 🐾✨

#GivingTuesday!

December 3, 2024

This "Giving Tuesday," Please Donate to Prevent Cruelty and Give Animals a Better Life!

Wondering where to direct your end-of-year donations? Please consider giving to our 501(c)(4), Social Compassion in Legislation (SCIL), to support our political advocacy work, and/or making a tax-deductible donation to our 501(c)(3), Social Compassion, to help us continue our animal welfare work, humane education and much more.

Your past charitable contributions have allowed SCIL to pass groundbreaking legislation that saves countless animals' lives worldwide every year. It also steers regulations that affect animals and fights harmful legislation, acting as a voice for the voiceless.

With your help, our 501(c)(3) educates the public about the importance of protecting all animals and stopping abuse in all forms. It also spearheads our efforts to care for animals that have been abandoned or need medical help and adoption.

Below are a few shining examples of SCIL sponsored bills that are now California law.

  • AB 3062: This bill banned octopus farming, and made California the first jurisdiction in the world to ban the sale of farmed octopus. The bill has bolstered efforts in Spain to stop octopus farming before it is started.
  • AB 829: This bill expands mandatory mental health counseling for those convicted of animal abuse crimes and encourages courts to order mental health evaluations and a higher level of treatment when necessary.
  • AB 1781: This bill requires that all animal control vehicles transport animals with climate control so that they are not endangered by extreme weather.
  • AB 558: The intent of this bill was included in the 2022 state budget by allocating $100,000,000 in grants to schools to be used for plant-based food or locally sourced food.
  • SB 573: This bill mandates that all pets leaving a shelter, whether adopted or reclaimed by owner, be microchipped, thus saving animal lives by raising reunification chances.
  • SB 313: This bill made California the third state to ban the use of wild animals in circuses, saving countless elephants, bears, lions and other animals from torture and abuse for entertainment.
  • AB 273: This bill made California the first state to ban recreational and commercial fur trapping, thus ending an antiquated, cruel and taxpayer-subsidized practice that was destroying wildlife for private profit.
  • SB 1138: This first-of-its-kind bill requires all California state healthcare facilities and prisons to make a plant-based meal option available, ensuring residents have access to cruelty-free and healthy meals.
  • SB 1249: A truly historic bill making California the first state to ban the sale of cosmetics and personal hygiene products tested on animals after Jan. 1, 2020, preventing needless animal suffering.
  • AB 485: A landmark bill banning the sale of “puppy mill” bred dogs, cats, and rabbits in pet stores. As of 2023, the bill has been replicated in 6 states and over 400 localities.
